KEVIN CORRICK BANNED FROM SCHOOLS IN SUFFOLK JAILED FOR BREACHING SEXUAL HARM PREVENTION ORDER

A man with a troubling criminal past, Kevin Corrick, has been sentenced to 16 months in prison after he was found to have violated a court-imposed sexual harm prevention order by engaging in activities at a school in north Suffolk without proper authorization.

Corrick, aged 63 and residing at Nightingale Court in Blyburgate, Beccles, had been involved in volunteer work at a local school over a span of ten months.

During this period, he supplied gardening materials and performed lawn maintenance, including grass cutting, as part of his involvement with the Man Shed community project.

Despite being under a court order that explicitly prohibited him from entering educational institutions or working with youth organizations, Corrick continued his activities at the school from March to December 2023 without informing any authorities or staff members of his legal restrictions.

The court proceedings revealed that Corrick had previously been convicted in 2012 of serious sexual offenses, including the rape and sexual assault of a schoolgirl, as well as producing indecent images of children.

As part of his sentence, he was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order designed to restrict his movements and interactions to prevent any potential reoffending.

However, Corrick admitted to breaching this order on multiple occasions, which led to his current incarceration.

During the hearing at Ipswich Crown Court, Judge Emma Peters emphasized the importance of sexual harm prevention orders in safeguarding the community, especially vulnerable children.

She pointed out that such orders are crucial in regulating the lives of convicted sex offenders after their release from prison, ensuring they do not pose a threat to the public.

The court was informed that Corrick had entered the school premises multiple times over the course of ten months, ostensibly to deliver gardening supplies and perform maintenance work.

When questioned by police about his reasons for not disclosing his legal restrictions, Corrick explained that he was concerned about losing his volunteer role.

He denied any intent to access children or to engage in activities that could put children at risk, asserting that he did not visit the school to seek contact with minors but admitted to having sexual attractions towards children.

In his own words, he told police, “I can’t help what’s in my head.” Representing Corrick, solicitor Claire Matthews argued that her client had not had any unsupervised contact with children during his volunteer work.

She emphasized that his involvement was limited to delivering gardening products and performing lawn maintenance, and that he had been released from prison in 2019, maintaining a clean record since then.

Matthews also highlighted Corrick’s remorse and his understanding of the wrongfulness of his actions, asserting that he had not reoffended and was committed to rehabilitation.

Judge Emma Peters, after considering the evidence, sentenced Corrick to 16 months in prison, underscoring the importance of strict enforcement of court orders meant to protect children and the community from potential harm.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing risks posed by individuals with a history of sexual offenses, even when they are engaged in seemingly benign activities such as volunteering at a school in Suffolk.
