RACHEL BURROWS AND KEVIN PREWITT SENTENCED TO 22 YEARS IN PRISON IN LOWESTOFT FOR ABUSING CHILDREN
A couple involved in a heartbreaking and horrific campaign of abuse against two children has been sentenced to a total of 22 years in prison.Rachel Burrows, aged 30, and Kevin Prewitt, aged 37, received their sentences at Ipswich Crown Court for their inhumane and sadistic actions spanning over a year, involving two children both under the age of 10.
The police were alerted in April 2020 when officers responded to Prewitt's residence on Myrtle Road in Lowestoft.
During the investigation, they uncovered a short indecent video and messages on Prewitt’s phone.
It was revealed that the couple was in a relationship; prosecutor Joanne Eley explained that police had attended both of their homes, seizing mobile phones, tablets, and other items linked to the evidence.
Further investigation uncovered a Skype conversation between Burrows and Prewitt, dated from January 2020 until the start of the coronavirus lockdown, where they discussed their plans.
Video analysis showed the victims sobbing and whimpering throughout the recordings.
A psychological assessment indicated that both children are likely to develop complex PTSD as a result of the abuse.
Both defendants had previously admitted to serious charges of child sexual abuse, including rape.
Prewitt also admitted to three counts of making indecent images of children and two counts of inciting or causing child exploitation.
Burrows admitted to multiple serious charges of child sexual abuse, three counts of taking indecent images of children, and an offence of inciting or causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
Legal representatives indicated that Prewitt has been engaging with support services since his custody, while for Burrows, lawyer Justin Rivett highlighted her low IQ and her infatuation with Prewitt, though he noted she is "remorseful" for her actions.
Meanwhile, Laura Kenyon, representing Prewitt, stated he was cooperating with authorities.
Judge Rupert Overbury described the crimes as "beyond depraved and despicable,” emphasizing their inhuman and sadistic nature.
He sentenced both to 22 years in prison and remarked, "If your families have any sense, they will disown you both because neither of you deserve a place in society until you have paid a high price for your actions."
