MICHAEL DOYLE JAILED FOR RAPE IN NOTTINGHAM: A NIGHTCLUB NIGHTMARE IN DERBYSHIRE
In August 2020, a man identified as Michael Doyle was sentenced to over nine years in prison after being convicted of a brutal sexual assault that took place in Nottingham. The incident, which shocked the local community, involved Doyle approaching a woman who was simply trying to make her way home after a night out in Nottingham city centre.
On the evening of Wednesday, February 20, Doyle, then 28 years old and reportedly without a fixed address, targeted the woman as she was walking alone.
According to reports, Doyle initially offered to accompany her, claiming he wanted to ensure her safety as she headed home.
However, this seemingly benign gesture quickly turned sinister when Doyle sexually assaulted her in an alleyway nearby.
During the assault, he also stole her bag, which contained her mobile phone, adding theft to his crimes.
The police investigation took a significant turn when they managed to trace the stolen phone.
By accessing the iCloud account linked to the device, authorities were able to track its location to a pub in Derbyshire.
This crucial lead led to Doyle’s arrest and subsequent charges.
Following his arrest, Doyle was formally charged with rape and theft.
He did not contest the charges and pleaded guilty to the offences just weeks before his trial was scheduled to commence.
His guilty plea spared the victim from having to testify in court and allowed for a swift judicial process.
On Friday, August 14, Doyle appeared before Nottingham Crown Court, where he was sentenced to nine years and six months in prison for his crimes.
The court’s decision underscores the severity of his actions and serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat sexual violence in Nottingham and beyond.
