TIMILEHIN OLATUNJI SENTENCED FOR RAPE IN NOTTINGHAM: BRAVE VICTIM RECORDED ATTACK
Detectives in Nottingham have commended the extraordinary bravery of a woman who managed to record a brutal assault carried out by Timilehin Olatunji.The incident occurred in the early hours of 29 September 2024 at a property in Nottingham, where Olatunji launched a sustained and vicious attack on the victim.
During the assault, the woman utilized a mobile application to capture audio recordings of the violence inflicted upon her.
This crucial piece of evidence proved instrumental in the subsequent investigation.
After the attack, she was able to escape from the premises and promptly reported the incident to specially-trained officers, who responded swiftly to her distress.
Within a short period, law enforcement officers apprehended 35-year-old Timilehin Olatunji.
He was subsequently charged with multiple offenses and later pleaded guilty to three counts of rape.
His guilty plea marked a significant step in the pursuit of justice for the victim.
Olatunji appeared before Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on Wednesday, 15 January.
The court sentenced him to a term of 10 years in prison.
Additionally, he was ordered to be placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for life and was subjected to an indefinite restraining order designed to prevent any contact with the victim.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Michael Auty described the attack as 'despicable and vile,' emphasizing that such behavior was 'beyond rational understanding.' He condemned Olatunji’s actions, stating, "You took it upon yourself to rape her in the most brutal, sadistic and cruel way imaginable." Following the proceedings, Detective Constable Emily Bucklow of Nottinghamshire Police expressed her thoughts on the case.
She highlighted the significance of the recorded evidence, describing the assault as 'particularly harrowing' for the officers involved.
She praised the victim’s courage, noting that her dignity and bravery following Olatunji’s arrest played a vital role in bringing him to justice.
Detective Bucklow also conveyed her hope that the sentence would offer some measure of closure for the victim, acknowledging the distressing nature of her ordeal.
She urged other victims of sexual violence to come forward, assuring them that the police are committed to supporting and protecting those affected by such heinous crimes.
The police remain dedicated to helping victims of serious sexual offenses and ensuring that offenders are held accountable.
