Doctor jailed for child abuse site
A former GP has been jailed for eight months for setting up websites to distribute child pornography.
Dr Ivor Ashby Ambus pleaded guilty at Leicester Crown Court to 22 offences involving indecent images of children.
The 58-year-old from Dunlin Wharf, Nottingham resigned from his job at the Winstanley Drive surgery in Leicester after his arrest in April 2005.
He was placed on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years and banned from working with children.
‘Highly trusted’
The court heard how Ambus took indecent images of children and set up an online distribution network for other paedophiles.
He was also found to have possessed more than 2,400 indecent images, collected over a four-year period while working as a doctor in Leicester.
Jailing him, Judge Christopher Metcalf, said: “You held a highly trusted professional position, although your offending does not relate to any children in your direct care.
“A sentence of immediate imprisonment is not only appropriate but necessary to reflect the seriousness of your involvement in child pornography.”
