IAIN LLOYD JAILED FOR HISTORIC CHILD ABUSE IN MERSEYSIDE
A man from Merseyside, Iain Lloyd, has been convicted and sentenced in connection with historic sexual offences committed against a young boy.Lloyd, aged 33 and residing at William Burton Place in New Ferry, was brought before Liverpool Crown Court where he received a four-year prison term on Friday, February 10.
Lloyd had entered a plea of not guilty to the charges of sexual assault but was found guilty after a trial that revealed the offences had taken place more than two decades ago.
The court's decision came after evidence was presented against him for two counts of indecent assault involving a minor under the age of 14.
In addition to his prison sentence, Lloyd will be required to register as a sex offender for life, a standard legal measure aimed at protecting the community from potential future harm.
The case was prosecuted by detectives from Merseyside’s Unity Team, a specialized unit that handles cases involving rape and serious sexual offences.
These officers meticulously investigated the allegations, demonstrating their commitment to justice.
Detective Constable Claire McDonald, who led the investigation, spoke on the matter, emphasizing the importance of the case.
She stated, “This sentence follows a lengthy investigation to bring Lloyd before the courts so that he pays for his crime.
Thanks to the determination and bravery of his victim, Lloyd will now spend a considerable amount of time behind bars for his actions.” She also pointed out the fact that Lloyd had chosen to deny responsibility and contest the charges, despite the substantial evidence against him, which led to a protracted legal process.
McDonald praised the victim for their courage, noting, “I would like to praise the courage and dignity shown by his victim throughout the investigation.” Furthermore, Detective Constable McDonald reaffirmed Merseyside Police’s unwavering dedication to safeguarding children from sexual abuse.
She expressed hope that Lloyd’s punishment would serve as a reminder of the severe consequences associated with such depraved conduct, saying, “We hope that he will now reflect on the consequences of his utterly depraved actions while serving his jail time.” In closing, she made an appeal to the public to come forward if they or someone they know have experienced any form of sexual abuse.
She assured that all reports are taken very seriously and that specially trained officers are available to handle such sensitive cases with the required compassion and professionalism, encouraging victims or witnesses to seek help and support.
