BRAIN CAWOOD SENTENCED IN MERSEYSIDE FOR HISTORICAL SEXUAL ABUSE IN WALLASEY
A man residing in Liscard, Merseyside, has been handed a significant prison sentence after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses.Brian Cawood, aged 61 and living on Silverlea Avenue in Liscard, was sentenced to 18 years behind bars, with an additional three years on extended licence.
This sentencing followed a trial at Liverpool Crown Court, where a jury found him guilty of 30 counts of historical sexual abuse involving two children in Wallasey.
These offenses, which spanned from the 1980s into the 1990s, had long remained unreported until recent investigations brought them to light.
The court also imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order on Cawood, a legal measure designed to restrict his activities and prevent further harm.
Furthermore, he will be required to sign the Sex Offender Register for the remainder of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and public safety.
Detective Constable Becky Robinson of Merseyside Police emphasized the importance of reporting such crimes regardless of how much time has passed.
She stated, “I hope this sentencing shows that time is no barrier in reporting offences to Merseyside Police and we will take every report extremely seriously, regardless of when it occurred.” Robinson also highlighted the crucial role played by the victims, whose bravery and determination were instrumental in securing justice.
“This result was only possible thanks to the sheer determination and bravery of his victims, despite Cawood denying the offences,” she added.
“Thankfully, a jury saw through his lies and he will now spend a considerable amount of time in prison.”
