KEVIN COOPER-SHAW'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN MERSEYSIDE: CARE WORKER GUILTY OF CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN ELLESMERE PORT

A man named Kevin Cooper-Shaw, previously employed as a care worker in Ellesmere Port, has been convicted of a series of heinous sexual offences involving a minor.

The case was thoroughly examined over a seven-day trial that commenced on March 11 at Chester Crown Court.

After careful deliberation, the jury returned a verdict on March 21, finding Cooper-Shaw guilty of 21 out of the 23 charges brought against him.

These charges encompass a disturbing range of criminal acts, including seven counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, and one count of inciting or causing a child to participate in sexual acts.

Additionally, Cooper-Shaw was convicted of rape, attempted sexual activity with a child, and multiple counts of sexual activity with a child by someone in a position of trust.

The court also found him guilty of two counts related to the creation of indecent images of children, specifically indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs, and of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity while in a position of trust.

It was revealed during the proceedings that Cooper-Shaw was employed at a care home located in Ellesmere Port from April 2018 until October 2021.

His role involved safeguarding and caring for vulnerable children and young people.

However, during his tenure, he exploited his position of trust to groom and commit multiple sexual offences against a teenage girl residing at the care facility.

The criminal investigation was initiated after the police were alerted to the matter in November 2021.

The Western Protecting Vulnerable People Unit launched a detailed inquiry into the allegations.

Following the report, Cooper-Shaw was swiftly arrested.

During the investigation, authorities examined his electronic devices and discovered a number of indecent images of children stored on his devices, further evidencing his criminal conduct.

Cooper-Shaw is scheduled to be sentenced on May 31.

The investigation officer, Detective Constable Katie Ashcroft, expressed her condemnation of his actions, stating, “The level of offending in this case and the acts he subjected his victim to were truly horrific.

Cooper-Shaw was meant to be in a position of trust, safeguarding and caring for young people.

Despite knowing this, and how vulnerable the victim was, Cooper-Shaw violated and betrayed that trust, abusing and deeply traumatising the young victim at a time when she should have felt safe.” DC Ashcroft also took the opportunity to commend the bravery of the victim, saying, “I’d like to thank the victim for their immense courage and strength they’ve shown throughout this investigation – first to come forward to report the crimes, and then also to give evidence and help convict this man for his predatory and warped behaviour.” She added a message of encouragement for others who may have suffered similar abuse, emphasizing that support and legal avenues are available for victims to seek justice and healing.
