DAVID MANSELL CAUGHT IN UNDERCOVER POLICE STING IN NORTHAMPTONSHIRE AND BICESTER
In a serious case of online predation, David Mansell, aged 54, was apprehended by Northants Police during an undercover operation that targeted individuals attempting to engage in illegal sexual activities with minors.The incident unfolded in March 2018, when Mansell was actively participating in an online chatroom under the pseudonym 'Bored Dad'.
During the course of the conversation, Mansell believed he was communicating with a 14-year-old girl, whom he referred to as Hannah.
The police officer, posing as the minor, was actually an undercover agent.
Mansell claimed to be 30 years old and from Oxford, a detail he shared during the chat.
Despite the apparent age discrepancy, Mansell continued to engage in sexually explicit dialogue, showing no concern for the age of the person he believed he was speaking to.
At one point, Mansell sent a private message containing a photograph of himself performing a sexual act.
This act was part of the evidence collected during the investigation.
The officer, pretending to be the minor, responded by sending a picture of a girl dressed in a school uniform.
Mansell responded positively, describing the image as 'nice' and continuing the lewd conversation.
These disturbing exchanges led to Mansell's arrest and subsequent charging in December 2018.
It was revealed that he had no prior criminal convictions, which made this case particularly alarming.
Mansell ultimately pleaded guilty to one count of attempting to engage in sexual activity with a child.
During the court proceedings at Northampton Crown Court on Thursday, June 23, Her Honour Judge Rebecca Crane addressed Mansell’s lack of acknowledgment regarding his sexual interest in children.
The judge noted that Mansell had refused to admit to such tendencies despite the evidence against him.
In her sentencing remarks, Judge Crane took into account Mansell’s guilty plea, his history of mental health issues, and the lengthy period before the case reached court.
As a result, she imposed an 18-month community order, requiring him to complete 40 hours of rehabilitation.
Additionally, Mansell was issued a sexual harm prevention order and prohibited from working with children or vulnerable adults for a period of five years, aiming to prevent any future harm.
This case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat online child exploitation and highlights the importance of vigilance in protecting minors from predators operating in digital spaces.
