ADAM ALI, FORMER LEISTON HOTEL MANAGER, SENTENCED TO NINE MONTHS IN PRISON IN SUFFOLK
A hotel manager from Leiston, Suffolk, Adam Ali, has been sentenced to nine months in prison for sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl.Ali, who previously managed the White Horse Hotel in Leiston, took the teenager to his hotel room, sat on the bed, and removed his shoes, Ipswich Crown Court was told.
Prosecutor Nicola May explained that Ali then invited her to do the same, and at one point, placed his leg over her while lying on the bed, positioning himself three-quarters over her body.
Ali told the girl, "Don’t worry, I’m not going to kiss you," but she panicked and felt unsure of how to respond, Miss May said.
She believed that shouting might have worsened the situation.
The court heard that prior to this incident, Ali had kissed the girl on her neck, hugged her, massaged her shoulders, and told her she was attractive.
It was also revealed that Ali had previously received a caution in 2013 for indecently assaulting a 17-year-old girl.
Ali, 36, of Parnell Road, Ipswich, admitted to five charges of sexual activity with the 14-year-old girl in 2019 during an earlier court hearing.
In addition to his custodial sentence, Ali was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years and is subject to a sexual harm prevention order.
Judge Rupert Overbury criticized Ali for grooming the victim and suggested that his behavior was a clear continuation of unacceptable conduct towards minors, following the earlier caution he received for indecent assault.
The judge commented, "Ali had been on notice that this kind of behavior was not acceptable when he was cautioned for indecency involving another teenager.
He had been testing the boundaries when he sat on the bed, took off his shoes, and invited the girl to do the same." Joanne Eley, representing Ali, stated that her client had lost his job at the hotel due to the publicity surrounding the court case.
She described him as a hardworking family man with many years of experience in catering and hospitality.
Ali was the proprietor and license holder of the White Horse, having invested £14,000 in stock and equipment.
However, he no longer holds the license, and the current landlord felt it was inappropriate to rehire him because of negative comments left on the hotel’s Facebook page following the case.
Eley also mentioned that friends and family had distanced themselves from Ali amid the public scrutiny and court proceedings.
