SUJAD HUSSAIN FROM BIRMINGHAM JAILED FOR ATTEMPTED RAPE OF VULNERABLE TEEN IN BIRMINGHAM PARK
In a case that has shocked the local community, Sujad Hussain, a 28-year-old man from Birmingham, was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for attempting to sexually assault a teenage girl with learning difficulties. The incident took place in Burbury Park, located in the Lozells area of Birmingham, during March of the previous year.
According to court proceedings, Hussain lured the vulnerable victim into the secluded surroundings of Burbury Park.
Once there, he forcibly attempted to assault her.
The teenager, demonstrating remarkable bravery, resisted his advances, which prompted Hussain to flee the scene.
However, before escaping, he stole her mobile phone, leaving her alone and in a state of distress in an unfamiliar part of Birmingham.
The young victim managed to summon help by walking to a nearby petrol station, where she raised the alarm.
Her quick thinking and courage played a crucial role in alerting authorities to the incident.
Hussain, who was subsequently apprehended, was charged with assault and attempted rape.
He had already admitted to stealing the victim’s phone prior to the trial.
Hussain faced trial at Birmingham Crown Court, where he was convicted of the charges.
During sentencing, Judge Stephen Eyre QC emphasized the gravity of Hussain’s actions, highlighting that he exploited the victim’s vulnerability.
The judge stated, “Your original plan may have been to take her phone but you realised she was alone in an area she didn’t know.
You must have realised she had a vulnerability.
You took her to a secluded place and assaulted her.
You controlled her against her will, and used her for your own pleasure.
That offending caused real distress to her.” In addition to the prison sentence, Hussain was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
The court also considered his previous criminal record, which includes seven convictions for phone thefts, two attempted robberies, kidnapping, and burglary.
Furthermore, he was instructed to serve one month of a suspended sentence related to dangerous driving, which was part of his ongoing legal issues.
Hussain’s criminal history and the severity of his recent conviction underscore the serious nature of his offenses.
The incident has left a lasting impact on the young victim, and the community continues to grapple with the implications of such predatory behavior occurring within their local parks and neighborhoods.
