EDL FOUNDER MEMBER RICHARD PRICE FROM BIRMINGHAM AND PAEDOPHILE CONTROVERSY
In February 2011, Edwardian Defence League (EDL) founder member Richard Price, aged 41 from Quinton, Birmingham, became the subject of serious allegations after being convicted of child pornography charges.ENGLISH Defence League leader Stephen Lennon, also known as Tommy Robinson, faced criticism for supporting Price following his conviction.
Lennon previously defended Price, who was arrested after police discovered explicit images at his home during an incident where he broke police lines at an EDL rally.
Price admitted to downloading the images and was subsequently placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register.
Earlier, after Price was jailed for three months due to threatening behaviour at the rally, the EDL launched a campaign advocating for his release.
Lennon claimed that Price had been “stitched up,” stating: “Richard Price had his house unfairly raided by West Midlands Police.
They informed him that they had found five photographs of children on the computer.
Price has no idea how they were on his computer.” Following widespread criticism from within his own ranks, Lennon later withdrew his support and issued a statement condemning Price, saying: “We completely condemn Richard Price.” Despite this, some EDL members expressed their disillusionment, with one individual stating: “I’m quitting.
A great street movement has a paedo in its leadership ranks.” A spokesperson for the charity Kidscape responded to the incident, emphasizing the gravity of the offence: “This serious offence should never be condoned.” By the evening, the EDL announced that Richard Price no longer maintained any links with the group.
