RHYS BUCHANAN SENTENCED IN BIRMINGHAM AFTER BLINDING WOMAN IN ONE EYE
A woman was left permanently blind in one eye after being assaulted by her partner, Rhys Buchanan, who accused her of infidelity.
Buchanan, aged 23, was sentenced to three years and three months in prison.
According to West Midlands Police, he was in a relationship with the victim when he attacked her in May 2022 driven by jealousy.
The single punch he delivered resulted in the woman being hospitalized for several days, during which surgeons were unable to restore her sight.
Buchanan, residing on Pershore Road in Selly Park, Birmingham, pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent.
His sentencing occurred at Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday.
Investigating officer Kathryn Burns commented, “Violence against women in domestic situations is a devastating crime.
This young woman has been left with a life-changing injury which has affected her not only physically but psychologically and emotionally.”
