ALAN SIMS BIRMINGHAM DOG TRAINER SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS ON YOUNG GIRLS AT WORCESTERSHIRE KENNELS

In a case that has shocked the local community and cast a shadow over the world of professional dog training, Alan Sims, a man with an esteemed reputation in the international dog training circuit, has been convicted of serious sexual offenses involving young girls.

The incidents took place at the North Worcestershire kennels he managed, where he held a prominent position as a director, overseeing the training and supply of specialized working dogs to clients worldwide.

The court proceedings culminated on Tuesday, September 20, at Birmingham Crown Court, where Sims, aged 72 and residing on Staple Lodge Road in Birmingham, was found guilty of nine counts of sexual assault.

These offenses spanned a period from 2005 to 2008 and involved three female victims aged between 14 and 17.

The court also acquitted him of two additional charges.

According to the court's ruling, Sims received a nine-month prison sentence, which was suspended for two years, meaning he will not serve time unless he commits another offense within that period.

Additionally, he was placed under a two-year supervision order and mandated to remain on the sex offenders’ register for five years.

These measures aim to monitor his conduct and prevent further harm.

The victims, all young women working or volunteering at the kennels, reported that Sims engaged in inappropriate behavior, including kissing, hugging, and making unwelcome comments, as well as touching them inappropriately.

The offences occurred within the premises of the kennels, which was a place where these girls sought employment driven by their passion for working with animals and the reputation of the establishment.

DC Kate Terris of West Mercia Police provided insight into the investigation, stating, “The offences came to light after one young girl started work at the kennels and told her parents Sims had made a ‘pass’ at her.

Police were contacted and during the course of the investigation, traced other victims.” She emphasized the betrayal of trust involved, noting, “For young girls who wanted to work with animals, it must have been a dream come true to be offered a job at a kennels with an international reputation.

Sims was in a position of trust and clearly abused that.” DC Terris also highlighted the emotional toll such crimes can have, saying, “Sexual assaults inevitably leave some form of emotional scars for life, and Sims put these children through the further ordeal of having to give evidence in court.

We hope now this case is over they will be able to find some peace of mind and be able to move forward with their lives.” While crimes of this nature are considered rare in West Mercia, the police force hopes that the conviction reassures the public of their commitment to pursuing all allegations of sexual misconduct, regardless of the offender’s reputation or standing in the community.
