ROSIE BERRY FROM LONDON JAILED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL AT FOOTBALL GAME
In December 2018, a disturbing case emerged involving Rosie Berry, a woman from London who was convicted of grooming and sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl she met through a local football team.Berry, aged 25 at the time, was sentenced to six years in prison after a detailed trial that uncovered her manipulative and predatory behavior.
Berry was employed in the human resources department at the renowned Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, a position that initially lent her an air of trustworthiness and respectability.
However, her true nature was revealed during the court proceedings, which detailed her heinous actions against the young girl, who was not connected to the hospital itself.
The victim’s mother expressed her shock and betrayal, describing Berry as a “perfect wolf in sheep’s clothing” and lamenting how her daughter was lured into danger despite the family’s confidence in Berry’s professional role.
The court heard that Berry’s abuse spanned over two years, from January 2014 to January 2016.
Her misconduct included sending the girl explicit and sadomasochistic messages, engaging in sexual activity with her over FaceTime, and physically assaulting her by locking her in a bathroom during a friend’s party.
The abuse began after Berry met the girl through a girls’ football team, which has since been disbanded.
The court was shown evidence of Berry’s grooming tactics, which involved manipulative communication designed to desensitize and control her young victim.
Berry’s criminal activities extended beyond her online interactions.
She was convicted of causing and inciting a child to perform sexual acts, engaging in sexual activity with a minor, and participating in sexual acts in the presence of a child.
The six-day trial culminated in her being sentenced to six years in prison last month.
Despite her arrest and the serious nature of her crimes, Berry was initially bailed to live at her mother Caroline Berry’s residence, where her mother operated a childminding service.
This decision drew significant criticism, especially considering a condition that prohibited her from having unsupervised access to children.
Further scrutiny revealed that Berry had spent seven months on bail living with her mother, whose childminding business was later shut down following safeguarding concerns reported by the NSPCC and confirmed by Ofsted.
The mother of the victim voiced her outrage, questioning how the courts could have allowed Berry to reside in a home filled with children, describing the situation as “disgraceful” and expressing fears that her daughter was not the only victim.
In April 2015, Great Ormond Street Hospital’s human resources team publicly acknowledged Berry’s employment by tweeting a photo of her holding a signed England women’s football shirt, highlighting her role within the hospital community.
Berry’s employment with the hospital continued until January 2016, when she was first arrested following allegations of sending sexual messages to her young victim.
She was subsequently re-arrested in January 2017 and faced additional charges in June of that year, leading to her eventual conviction and imprisonment.
The case has left a lasting impact on the community, raising serious concerns about safeguarding and the oversight of individuals in trusted positions.
