JONATHAN KING SHAMES LONDON WITH HIS DENIALS AFTER PRISON RELEASE

In March 2005, the controversial figure Jonathan King, a well-known entertainment mogul from London, found himself at the center of a heated public debate following his release from prison.

Despite serving three and a half years of a seven-year sentence for serious sexual offenses involving teenage boys, King continued to assert his innocence, prompting widespread outrage and condemnation.

As he exited Maidstone Prison in Kent, King addressed the media, vehemently denying any wrongdoing.

He claimed, "I am innocent of the charges against me.

There is no issue of the acts being consensual; there were no acts.

No matter how much people try, you can't bend the truth." He further insisted that he had never met one of the five men he was accused of abusing and challenged the evidence presented against him, asserting, "There is no evidence I ever did meet him." King revealed that his legal team was preparing for a judicial review of the Criminal Cases Review Commission’s decision not to refer his case to the Court of Appeal.

In a subsequent interview with Five News, he maintained that all his alleged victims were of legal age and capable of making their own decisions.

He stated, "None of them—male or female—were children or forced to do anything they did not want to do.

Some were below the age of consent, but the law was in place, and I knew I was breaking it, yet I did it knowingly and conscientiously.

I am not guilty of the convictions against me." Addressing the issue of his celebrity status, King claimed, "I used my position as a celebrity.

I was famous, extremely handsome, and talented, which made me very attractive." He drew a comparison to Michael Jackson, asserting, "I feel exactly like Michael Jackson, in that I am innocent." Throughout his time in custody, King described his prison experience as "fascinating," claiming it was the most remarkable three-and-a-half years of his life.

He said, "You meet fascinating people and see a side of the world you never knew existed.

Contrary to popular belief, prison life was not hell; I had no complaints except for the food at Broadmoor.

The Prison Service does an excellent job, though politicians seem indifferent, likely because there are no votes in it for them." Despite the controversy, King announced his intention to return to his music career and expressed a desire to support charities and organizations fighting wrongful convictions.

He highlighted cases such as Sally Clark, Angela Cannings, and Stephen Downing, describing them as just the tip of the iceberg in a broader issue of miscarriages of justice.

"There are thousands of people without legal representation who have to endure wrongful convictions," he lamented, emphasizing his commitment to advocacy.

Throughout the ordeal, critics, including Norman Brennan, director of the Victims of Crime Trust, have condemned King’s actions and statements.

Brennan described him as a "danger to young boys" whose "perversions" have caused widespread revulsion across the nation.

Brennan emphasized that the jury, after hearing all evidence, was convinced beyond doubt of King’s guilt and warned that King’s continued protests only serve to undermine the justice process.

He urged King to "just shut up" for the sake of his victims who had the courage to testify against him, asserting that King’s fame and perceived attractiveness were exploited to manipulate young victims.

King’s conviction at the Old Bailey in September 2001 stemmed from allegations that he lured teenage boys to his Bayswater residence in West London during the 1980s, where he showed them pornography before assaulting them.

The court heard that the Cambridge-educated impresario used his influence and fame to prey on vulnerable youths.

Despite his appeals and attempts to overturn the verdict, he remained steadfast in his claims of innocence, maintaining that his actions were consensual and that he had not engaged in any illegal activity involving children.
