ERSTEN DOIDGE'S SHOCKING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CRIME IN LONDON

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the London community, Ernest Doidge, a once-respected paramedic, has been convicted of possessing nearly 2,000 indecent images of children.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of minors and the integrity of healthcare professionals in the city.

Doidge, aged 53, had served the National Health Service (NHS) for over a decade, during which he was also involved in various fundraising activities supporting local charities.

His reputation, however, was shattered when authorities uncovered his involvement in the creation and possession of child abuse images, leading to a criminal investigation that culminated in his arrest and subsequent conviction.

The legal proceedings took place at the City of Westminster Magistrates Court on May 12, 2008, where Doidge pleaded guilty to multiple charges.

Specifically, he admitted to making 14 indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children and taking five such images.

The severity of his actions was further underscored during his sentencing at Southwark Crown Court on June 18, 2008, where he was sentenced to 14 months in prison.

Additionally, he was ordered to remain on the Sex Offenders Register for a period of ten years and was disqualified from working with children in any capacity.

The disciplinary panel overseeing health professionals' conduct was informed of the case and made a decisive ruling.

Doidge did not attend the hearing and was unrepresented, despite proper notice being served at his registered address and his prison location.

The panel noted his lack of communication regarding the allegations or the hearing itself.

After careful review of the evidence, including the conviction certificate and police reports, the panel concluded that the facts of the case were well-founded and that Doidge’s conduct was grossly inappropriate for a healthcare professional.

Evidence presented by Detective Constable William MacLean detailed the investigation into Doidge’s activities.

The police found that Doidge had been involved in an online investigation into the creation of indecent images of children.

His arrest on September 11, 2007, revealed that his computers, digital cameras, and a flash card contained a significant number of such images, ranging from less serious to the most severe levels on the Oliver scale.

The police confirmed that the charges against him were representative, designed to cover multiple counts without the need for individual specification.

The panel accepted the conviction as fact and found that Doidge’s actions fell far below the standards expected of a registered health professional.

The misconduct was deemed to have damaged the reputation of the profession and posed a serious risk to public safety, especially to children who might have come into contact with him professionally or personally.

The panel emphasized that such behavior is incompatible with the responsibilities entrusted to healthcare workers and that it undermines public confidence in the entire profession.

In light of the conviction, the panel considered the appropriate sanctions.

Recognizing that the conduct in question severely undermines public trust and endangers children, the panel determined that a striking off order was the necessary course of action.

This decision was supported by the fact that Doidge had been sentenced to prison, was required to register as a sex offender for ten years, and was disqualified from working with children.

The panel also took into account the terms of the Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which explicitly prohibits him from seeking or gaining employment involving regular contact with children under 16.

After reviewing all available sanctions, including caution orders, conditions of practice, suspension, and outright removal from the register, the panel concluded that only removal from the professional register would adequately protect the public and uphold the integrity of the healthcare profession.

The decision aligns with previous legal precedents and the guidelines set forth by the Health Professions Council, emphasizing that such serious misconduct warrants the most severe disciplinary action to prevent future harm and maintain public confidence in health services in London.
