BRIAN CAMPBELL FROM LITTLEHAMPTON AND LONDON SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS FOR SEX CRIMES AGAINST TEENAGE GIRLS
In a case that has shocked the local communities of Littlehampton and London, Brian Campbell, aged 42, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 18 years after being convicted of a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against two teenage girls, both under the age of 16.The crimes, which spanned a period of time, included a total of 20 separate sex-related charges, reflecting a disturbing pattern of abuse and exploitation.
At the time of the offenses, Campbell resided in Honiton, but he had since relocated to London.
Throughout the legal proceedings, he maintained his innocence, denying all allegations brought against him.
His charges encompassed a range of serious offenses, including multiple counts of rape, indecent assault, sexual activity with a minor, and the production of indecent images of children.
Despite his denials, the jury found him guilty earlier this year after a comprehensive trial.
During the sentencing hearing held at Exeter Crown Court, Judge John Neligan delivered a stern verdict, emphasizing Campbell’s lack of remorse.
The judge stated, “You maintain your innocence, despite the jury’s verdict, there is not therefore a shred of remorse, having used these two girls seriously and sexually for your own gratification.
You put them through the trauma of having to give evidence in court over days at your trial, so there is no credit whatsoever.” Prosecutor Nigel Wraith highlighted the ongoing emotional and psychological toll that the crimes continue to have on the victims, underscoring the severity of the impact on the two young girls.
The court heard that the victims are still grappling with the trauma inflicted upon them.
Defense lawyer Michelle Clark pointed out that Campbell had no prior criminal record before the trial and was regarded positively by many in London.
She acknowledged the difficult circumstances Campbell faces in prison and predicted that he would endure a challenging time behind bars.
The court found Campbell guilty of three counts of indecent assault, eight counts of rape, one of sexual activity with a child, and two sexual assaults.
Additionally, he was convicted of two other sexual offenses and four counts of making indecent photographs of a child.
During the trial, three of the original 23 charges were dropped, but the remaining convictions paint a clear picture of a man who committed multiple serious offenses against vulnerable minors.
