ROBERT TOLLER'S SHAMEFUL CRIMES ON SWANSEA AND GOWER BEACHES REVEAL PERVERTED PAST
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community, Robert Toller, a 62-year-old man from Swansea, was caught engaging in highly inappropriate and illegal behavior on a busy beach in Gower. The incident took place during the summer months, specifically on Sunday, July 8, when a vigilant mother noticed Toller loitering near the public showers at Langland Bay.
According to court reports, she observed him with his hand inside his trousers, actively pleasuring himself in full view of other beachgoers.
Despite her children being present, they did not witness his actions directly, but the woman quickly approached other witnesses to alert them to the situation.
As the scene unfolded, Toller was seen watching two young girls, estimated to be between 11 and 13 years old, while continuing his indecent behavior.
The mother’s intervention prompted a number of bystanders to confront Toller, who then attempted to walk away in the direction of Rotherslade.
However, his escape was thwarted when another man on the beach detained him until authorities arrived.
The beach was notably crowded with families and children at the time, making Toller’s actions even more egregious.
Following his arrest, Toller was identified by multiple witnesses during a police identity parade.
He subsequently refused to comment during police interviews, providing no explanation for his conduct.
Toller’s address was recorded as Heol Calfin, Ravenhill, Swansea.
It is important to note that this was not his first offense of a similar nature.
Court records revealed that Toller had previously been convicted of outraging public decency in 2013 after he was caught pleasuring himself while looking at a five-year-old girl from inside a car in Clydach.
Additionally, he had received a caution in 2000 for being naked and masturbating in the sand dunes at Pembrey, indicating a troubling pattern of behavior over the years.
During the sentencing hearing at Swansea Crown Court, Judge Paul Thomas QC condemned Toller’s actions as “disgusting and depraved.” Addressing him directly, the judge remarked, “I am going to use a phrase that you won’t find in a legal textbook – you are a dirty old man.” The judge explained that the options before him were either to send Toller to prison for a relatively short period, which would likely result in his release back into the community as the same individual, or to impose a community-based order that would include probation and rehabilitation efforts.
Ultimately, the judge decided that the latter was the more appropriate course of action for the safety of the public.
Consequently, Robert Toller was sentenced to 32 weeks in prison, suspended for two years.
He was also ordered to complete a rehabilitation course and participate in the Horizon community sex offenders program.
Furthermore, Toller was made subject to a sexual harm prevention order for ten years and was required to register as a sex offender for the same duration, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to prevent further offenses.
