ASHIQUR RAHMAN AND JUNAIH HUSSAIN SENTENCED IN SWANSEA AND LONDON SEX CRIME CASE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the communities of Swansea and London, two men have been sentenced to prison for engaging in illegal sexual activities with a young girl they met through social media platforms.The incidents, which took place over a span of several months, involved a teenage girl who was just 13 years old at the time of the first encounter, highlighting the dangers of online grooming and the serious consequences of such misconduct.
One of the offenders, Ashiqur Rahman, a resident of Sketty in Swansea, was found to have had sexual relations with the girl on five separate occasions when she was aged 13 and 14.
Rahman, aged 26 at the time of sentencing, pleaded guilty to five counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child.
His actions came to light after the girl confided in a schoolfriend, prompting police investigation.
Rahman admitted that he initially met the girl through Facebook in December of the previous year.
The two exchanged mobile numbers and planned to meet in the Uplands area of Swansea, intending to go to a nearby park.
However, their plans were thwarted when the girl’s mother intervened after noticing their interaction.
Despite this setback, Rahman and the girl later met by chance, and it was during these subsequent encounters that the sexual activities began.
Rahman would visit her home when her mother was not present, and these clandestine meetings continued until the police were alerted.
During police interviews, Rahman claimed that the girl had told him she was 16 years old and alleged that she had pressured him into having sex.
These claims were strongly contested by the prosecution.
Meanwhile, the second defendant, Junaid Hussain, a 32-year-old from London, also met the girl through Facebook.
Hussain traveled from London to Swansea in June of that year after booking a hotel room on Fabian Way.
The girl, dressed in her school uniform, met him at a city centre bus stop before they proceeded to the hotel, where they engaged in sexual activity.
Hussain maintained during police interviews that he believed the girl was 16 and described her as very eager to have sex.
His actions were also deemed to be part of a pattern of grooming and illegal conduct.
Both men appeared before Swansea Crown Court, where they faced serious charges.
The prosecution, led by Craig Jones, highlighted the gravity of the case, especially noting that both men had engaged in unprotected sex, significantly increasing the risk of pregnancy and other health concerns.
The defense lawyers, John Hipkin and Catherine Richards, expressed remorse on behalf of their clients, emphasizing their clients’ shame and regret for their actions.
Judge Thomas sentenced Rahman and Hussain to three years in prison each, underscoring the severity of their offenses.
The judge pointed out that the case involved serious breaches of trust and highlighted the dangers posed by online grooming, especially when involving minors.
The court’s decision reflects the importance of protecting vulnerable young people from exploitation and ensuring that justice is served in cases of this nature.
