Jamie Rogers

Swansea Domestic Violence

A man who subjected his partner to a brutal beating has been told by a judge that he does not know how to treat women. Jamie Rogers beat his then-partner black and blue after losing his temper during a break at a west Wales caravan park. The assault happened in April 2023 when Rogers and his then-partner were staying at the Quay West holiday park in New Quay. The prosecutor told the court that on April 20, the couple went to the clubhouse at the site where they both consumed alcohol. The atmosphere between them was initially 'pleasant and without difficulties'. However, Rogers began offering children money to play on games machines, which angered parents and led to his ejection from the clubhouse.Once outside, Rogers verbally abused his partner and then proceeded to throw her to the ground, causing bruises and swelling to her face and body. After being escorted back to their caravan, his demeanor changed again, and he assaulted her more violently. He grabbed the victim by her arms, yelling that she was 'taking his child from him', before pushing her and punching her repeatedly in the mouth, jaw, and left eye, causing her to lose consciousness. Following the incident, he sent messages expressing his devastation and attributing his actions to alcohol. At Swansea Crown Court, it was revealed that Rogers had six previous convictions for nine offenses, including domestic abuse. Judge Huw Rees noted, 'I readily come to the conclusion that you do not know how to treat a woman, certainly when you are in drink'. Rogers received a sentence of 30 months in prison, combining 24 months for the New Quay assault and activating six months of a previously suspended sentence. He is also subject to a seven-year restraining order to keep him away from his victim. After the sentencing, the victim said, 'I genuinely believe that I was going to die that day. The impact of that is unexplainable... People need to realize how bad it was and to stay away from him completely.'
