PAUL HUNT SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS FOR RAPE OF CHILD IN LONDON
A man identified as Paul Hunt has been given a substantial prison sentence after being convicted of heinous crimes involving a minor in London. The offences, which spanned over two years, involved the sexual abuse of a girl who was under the age of 13 at the time.
Paul Hunt, aged 35 and born on September 19, 1987, was remanded to serve an 18-year term following a hearing held at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Thursday, June 29.
In addition to his prison sentence, Hunt was also subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, a legal measure designed to restrict his future contact with vulnerable individuals and prevent further offences.
The conviction was the culmination of a trial that concluded on June 16, during which Hunt was found guilty of multiple counts of rape and sexual assault against the young girl.
The court was informed that Hunt had established a relationship of grooming with the victim over a series of visits to the residence where he was staying in Stratford, London.
Over the period from 2006 to 2008, Hunt repeatedly subjected the girl to sexual acts, knowing full well her vulnerable age.
During the course of the court proceedings, it was revealed that Hunt had threatened the girl, warning her that her claims would not be believed if she ever disclosed the abuse.
This manipulation was aimed at maintaining his control over the victim and silencing her fears.
However, after many years, in 2018, the now adult woman confronted Hunt in an attempt to seek justice.
She subsequently reported the matter to the police.
An investigation was launched, which involved the meticulous collection of evidence and witness testimonies dating back more than a decade, showcasing the police’s commitment to resolving cold cases of this nature.
When arrested, Hunt declined to answer questions during his police interview, choosing to remain silent.
Despite this, sufficient evidence was gathered, and he was charged with the crimes he had committed.
The police and prosecution emphasized Hunt’s exploitation of a vulnerable child and his manipulation to prevent her from speaking out.
Detective Inspector Jeremy McDermott of the North East Command Unit expressed his support for the victim's bravery, stating, “Hunt exploited and took advantage of a vulnerable child on numerous occasions.
He told the victim that she would not be believed.
Despite this, she showed commendable bravery in coming forward and providing such strong evidence to police and at the trial.
I hope that the sentence handed down will bring her a small measure of comfort and a sense that justice has been done.” The authorities also issued a call to others who may have suffered similar abuse to come forward and report their experiences.
McDermott reassured victims that the police are committed to supporting them and ensuring their voices are heard, emphasizing the importance of justice for those who have been harmed.
