OLIVER FAY AND SHOCKING GROOMING AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN LONDON
A man from London, Oliver Fay, aged 45, has been brought to justice following a series of deeply disturbing crimes that involved covertly filming a female tenant and possessing a large collection of indecent images of children.Fay, who resided in a council flat in Bethnal Green, East London, had been subletting one of his rooms to a female lodger for a period of at least three years, after she responded to an online advertisement for available accommodation.
During this time, Fay engaged in highly invasive and criminal acts by secretly recording his lodger in private moments.
These recordings, some taken in the bathroom and while she was sleeping, revealed a gross invasion of her privacy.
Evidence showed that Fay used a concealed mobile phone, sometimes hidden inside a small black vanity drawer or at the end of the bath, to secretly capture these intimate moments without her knowledge.
The investigation intensified when the National Crime Agency (NCA) obtained intelligence indicating Fay had uploaded numerous indecent images of children to the internet.
Authorities responded swiftly by visiting his home in Bethnal Green.
They seized several electronic devices from his bedroom, which were subject to detailed examinations while Fay was in custody.
Law enforcement officials uncovered a staggering total of 9,831 indecent images of children on Fay’s devices.
Among these, 1,200 images fell into the most serious category—Category A—featuring any form of penetrative sexual activity, which signifies a grave level of exploitation.
The review of his phone also revealed evidence of the covert recordings of his lodger.
Fay was arrested on suspicion of voyeurism and possessing indecent images of children.
He was brought before the courts and ultimately pleaded guilty in January.
On Friday, at Snaresbrook Crown Court, Fay was sentenced to a term of two years and ten months in prison for six counts of voyeurism, which took place between September 2019 and August of the previous year.
In addition to his imprisonment, Fay was convicted of three counts of making indecent images of children across categories A, B, and C.
Category B images depict non-penetrative sexual acts, while Category C covers other forms of indecent images not classified under the first two categories.
The court also imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, a strict measure aimed at preventing future offenses.
Furthermore, Fay was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, a requirement that includes ongoing monitoring and restrictions.
During her sentencing remarks, Judge Caroline English emphasized the gravity of Fay’s actions.
She stated, “Anyone involved in such imagery, whether in production, distribution, or merely viewing, is engaging in an act of profound depravity.
Downloading or viewing such material makes one complicit in the ongoing abuse and suffering of innocent children.
Such individuals should feel deep shame for their participation in this concealed but heinous market.” Detective Constable Lindsey England, who led the investigation, expressed her condemnation of Fay’s actions.
She remarked, “Oliver Fay used his mobile phone to take disturbing images of his lodger over a period of at least three years.
This was an appalling invasion of her privacy, and it is difficult to comprehend how traumatic it must have been for her to realize her safe space had been violated in this way.
I commend her bravery in coming forward and hope she can now find a way to begin healing.” PC England further highlighted the seriousness of Fay’s predatory behavior, noting, “His sexual interests and misconduct are deeply troubling, and he showed no regard for the distress and humiliation he caused.
We encourage anyone who suspects they have been secretly recorded to contact police.
Support is available, and we want victims to come forward to seek justice and protection.”
