February 2012 Rapist given 10 year sentence A man who raped a woman at knife-point in her own home has been sentenced to 10 and a half years in prison. Nathan Corns, of Elgar Avenue, Malvern was sentenced at Hereford Crown Court on Thursday and will be the subject of a lifetime licence after his release. The woman had let Corns – who was known to her – sleep at her house that night because he claimed to have nowhere else to stay. After going to bed, Corns then came into the woman’s bedroom and threatened her with a knife in order to get her to comply with his demands. The attack was reported to police and Corns was arrested by officers a few hours later. Detective Inspector Richard Rees said the sentence reflected the seriousness of the case. He said: “The victim – a mature woman who felt safe in her own home – had offered Corns food and shelter for the night and he repaid her kindness by subjecting her to a terrifying and brutal ordeal. “This is a very satisfactory result, which has removed a high risk and dangerous offender from society for a considerable amount of time. “I know the victim feels a lot safer because of this sentence, and that Corns will be monitored for the rest of his life upon his release. “I would like to commend the victim’s bravery in coming forward and – despite the traumatic circumstances – seeing that this was reported swiftly to us which enabled a quick arrest of Corns. “Violent crimes like this are thankfully rare in South Worcestershire, but I hope yesterday’s sentence encourages any victims of sexual abuse to contact police and have faith that all will be done to investigate any complaints and bring any offenders to justice.”
