JULIAN BIRD SENTENCED IN WORCESTER FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES
In January 2011, Julian Bird, a man convicted of serious child sexual offences, was sentenced to 15 years in prison at Worcester Crown Court.
Bird, of Elgar Avenue in Malvern, was found guilty in September of six counts of rape and four counts of indecent assault committed between 1977 and 1989.
The jury reached a unanimous verdict, convicting the 44-year-old of five counts of raping a child aged between five and 16, and four counts of indecent assault on a girl aged between five and seven.
Additionally, he was convicted of raping a seven-year-old.
Recorder Gareth Evans sentenced Bird yesterday to a 15-year prison term, with the condition of lifetime registration on the sex offenders register upon release.
During the sentencing, the judge stated, “You show no remorse.
You still maintain your innocence, despite overwhelming evidence.” Detective Constable Michelle Cook, the case officer, expressed her satisfaction with the outcome.
She said, “This is a very satisfactory result, which I hope provides some comfort to Bird’s victims.
I also hope this encourages any victims of sexual abuse to have faith that all will be done to investigate complaints and bring any offenders to justice.”
