DAVID BRANT FROM MALVERN, WEST MIDLANDS, SENTENCED FOR PREDATORY SEX OFFENSES AGAINST A 3-YEAR-OLD GIRL

In a case that has shocked the community of Malvern, West Midlands, David Brant, a man with a long history of sexual offenses, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the heinous crime of raping a three-year-old girl. The incident, which took place in Malvern, was brought to light during a court hearing at Worcester Crown Court, where the severity of Brant’s past and the details of the recent attack were thoroughly examined.

Prosecutor Michael Conry outlined that Brant, who has been known to authorities since 1997, has committed nearly 85 offenses over the years. Despite his extensive criminal record, Brant had repeatedly failed to inform the authorities of his current residence, a breach that added to the gravity of his case. On March 3, at midday, Brant appeared unannounced at a residence in Malvern. The homeowner, a mother of three children, allowed him entry, unaware of his criminal background.

During the brief period Brant was alone with the young girl, he committed the assault. He later claimed that the child was injured when he carried her downstairs, but the damage was severe enough to warrant a hospital examination. The medical assessment revealed significant injuries, and the incident left a lasting psychological impact on the child, who subsequently exhibited violent behavior towards her parents. The court heard that Brant’s actions were particularly disturbing given his history and the fact that he had previously been banned from working with children.

Judge Robert Juckes QC sentenced Brant to 15 years in prison, with the judge specifying that Brant would serve a minimum of nine and a half years before being eligible for parole. The judge also ordered that Brant must sign the sex offenders register for life, be subject to a 15-year license period upon release, and face the possibility of recall to prison if he breaches any conditions. The court emphasized that Brant’s prior convictions included a 2005 conviction for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl, an incident that further underscored his dangerousness.

During the hearing, defense counsel Andrew Hobson argued that Brant’s homelessness and alcoholism had contributed significantly to his offending behavior. He stated that Brant had not deliberately targeted the Malvern family and that his guilty plea to the sexual assault was an acknowledgment of his guilt. Hobson also highlighted that Brant had been remorseful and that since being in custody, he no longer craved alcohol. The judge acknowledged the defense’s points but made it clear that Brant’s actions demonstrated he remained a serious threat to children.

In a related matter, Brant’s ongoing issues with anti-social behavior were addressed. In July 2012, a court confirmed that Brant, then 31 years old and residing in Orchid Court, Poolbrook, would continue to be subject to a Criminal Anti-social Behaviour Order (Crasbo). This order was a response to his persistent unruly conduct, especially when intoxicated. The court detailed incidents including damage to property and disruptive behavior at Malvern Theatre and the local library, as well as an episode where he was found lying drunk and unconscious in Kidderminster’s Green Street. Brant’s behavior had led to a fine and an appeal against the terms of the Crasbo, which the court ultimately upheld, emphasizing the need to protect the public from his abusive and threatening conduct.

Judge Juckes reaffirmed that while Brant’s drinking problem was acknowledged, it did not justify his criminal behavior. The court’s primary concern was public safety, and the order was deemed necessary to prevent further anti-social acts. The case underscores the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in managing repeat offenders like David Brant, whose actions continue to pose a significant risk to the community of Malvern and beyond.
