JOSHUA BEVAN AND SHOCKING CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN SWANSEA

A detailed investigation by the online crime division of South Wales Police uncovered disturbing evidence linking Joshua Bevan to the possession and distribution of indecent images of young children in Swansea.

The case came to light in June 2021 when officers from the cybercrime unit, based in Bridgend, initiated a probe after discovering that a computer associated with Bevan’s residence in Crwys Terrace, Penlan, Swansea, was being used for the illicit downloading of child abuse material.

This discovery prompted a swift response from law enforcement to address the serious allegations.

On the morning of June 21, at precisely 7:10 am, a team of detectives arrived at Bevan’s home address.

During this visit, they informed him and his mother that a formal search of the premises would be carried out, focusing on electronic devices that could contain incriminating evidence.

The authorities examined various electronic gadgets, including a Samsung mobile phone retrieved from Bevan’s bedroom.

Following a forensic examination, a digital forensic officer uncovered a secure folder on the phone.

This folder was accessed, revealing a disturbing collection of videos and images depicting child abuse and extreme pornography.

These files were located within the messaging application Kik, which is often used for sharing such illicit material.

The police found multiple indecent videos stored there and arrested Bevan immediately, bringing him in for questioning at the station.

During the interview, Bevan admitted that the phone belonged to him but declined to comment on the nature of the material stored on it.

Further detailed analysis of the device uncovered twelve indecent videos within a chat group on Kik.

Bevan was confirmed to be a member of this group, which consisted of a total of nine individuals.

Two of these videos were classified as Category A, indicating the most severe type of child abuse imagery, while one was Category C, and the remaining nine pieces featured extreme pornography, some involving young girls as young as four years old.

Court proceedings revealed that Bevan, aged 29, was no stranger to the law regarding similar offences.

Prosecutor Dean Pulling reminded the court that Bevan had previously been convicted in 2014 for making and possessing indecent photographs of children.

At that time, he was subject to a community order and was under a five-year sexual offences prevention order.

His latest convictions included two counts of creating and possessing indecent images of children, alongside possession of extreme pornographic material depicting acts involving a dead or alive animal.

During the hearing, Bevan’s defense lawyer, John Allchurch, explained that the material was found on Kik, an app he shared with others.

He suggested that someone other than Bevan had saved or uploaded the illicit content to the group, implying that his failure to leave the chat or delete the app was a mistake rooted in his mental health issues.

He emphasized that Bevan, who was single, unemployed for the past decade, and living with his mother, was struggling with mental health problems.

Ultimately, Judge Paul Thomas sentenced Bevan to eight months in prison.

In his remarks, the judge emphasized the damaging impact such images have on victims and the horror of the abuse depicted.

He stated, “The physical and emotional damage that occurs to the girls (depicted in the photographs) can only be guessed at.

Those things are happening to young children because people like you provide a market for it so you can masturbate to it.

There were also images of people having sex with animals.

I accept you have mental health issues, but, in my view, there is no prospect of rehabilitation.

You had that chance and didn't take advantage of it.”
