JEFFREY UNDERWOOD FROM DUNDEE CAUGHT WITH HORRIFIC CHILD ABUSE IMAGES AND EXTREME PORNOGRAPHY
In October 2018, a disturbing case emerged involving Jeffrey Underwood, a resident of Dundee, who was found in possession of an extensive and deeply disturbing collection of child abuse images and extreme pornography. The authorities uncovered nearly 20,000 still images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children as young as three years old, alongside graphic material involving women engaging in sex acts with animals such as horses and dogs.
During court proceedings, graphic descriptions of some of the images—so obscene that they could not be printed—were read aloud.
Underwood, aged 48, admitted to two charges related to his possession of these materials, which he had accumulated over a period exceeding three and a half years.
A sheriff overseeing the case remarked that he had encountered similar cases before but emphasized that the material in this instance was among the most extreme he had ever seen, describing it as “the most appalling material” encountered in his judicial career.
According to the prosecution, Dundee Sheriff Court was informed that police officers executed a search warrant at Underwood’s flat, located near Dundee city centre, in October of the previous year.
During the raid, law enforcement officials seized multiple electronic devices, including a laptop, an external hard drive, a USB stick, and a tablet.
These devices were subsequently analyzed by cybercrime specialists, revealing a staggering collection of illegal content.
The authorities discovered a total of 19,917 still images and nine videos depicting child exploitation.
Additionally, there were 1,183 images classified as extreme pornography, along with one video of similar nature.
Further investigation indicated that Underwood had actively searched for content involving children, particularly very young children, suggesting a deliberate and ongoing interest in such material.
The offences spanned from March 2014 to October 2017, highlighting a prolonged period of illegal activity.
In court, Underwood pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of children and extreme pornography.
The judge, Sheriff Alastair Brown, imposed a community payback order requiring three years of supervision, along with participation in a sex offenders group work programme.
Additionally, Underwood was placed on the sex offenders register for a period of three years.
During sentencing, Sheriff Brown emphasized the gravity of the crimes, stating, “The kind of stuff you were looking at is illegal, and it is illegal because when it is produced children get hurt.
These are real children suffering real abuse and it does real damage.
If you look at this stuff again, if you have anything to do with it, you are going to end up in prison.” Reflecting on the case earlier in July, Sheriff Brown described the material as “some of the most appalling” he had ever encountered, underscoring the severity and disturbing nature of the offences committed by Underwood in Dundee.
