JAMES GREEN SENTENCED IN LONDON FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON 5-YEAR-OLD VICTIM
In a significant legal development, James Green, a man from London, has seen his prison sentence substantially increased following an appeal by the Solicitor General, the Rt Hon Michael Ellis QC MP.The case pertains to a disturbing incident that occurred in January 2020, involving Green’s assault on a young child.
At the time of the offense, Green was 21 years old.
He engaged in a heinous act of sexual assault against a five-year-old child, during which he used threats and manipulation to silence the victim.
Green made the young child promise not to disclose what had happened, warning that they would face trouble if they did.
The assault left the child in pain, and despite Green’s efforts to conceal his actions, the victim eventually confided in a family member about the abuse.
This disclosure prompted the family member to report Green to the police, leading to his arrest and subsequent legal proceedings.
It is important to note that Green was already under a suspended sentence for a previous charge of sexual assault involving a minor under 16.
Additionally, he was subject to strict legal restrictions that prohibited him from having any contact with girls under the age of 18.
He was also barred from residing at any address where a girl under 18 lived, reflecting the seriousness of his prior convictions and the potential risk he posed.
On November 8, 2019, Green was sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court to serve eight years in prison, accompanied by a two-year extended license period.
However, this initial sentence was deemed insufficient by the authorities, prompting an appeal.
The Court of Appeal reviewed the case and, recognizing the gravity of Green’s actions and his history of offending, decided to increase his sentence.
The court extended his imprisonment to twelve years, with an additional three years on extended license, thereby imposing a more severe penalty to reflect the seriousness of his crimes.
Following the appeal, the Solicitor General expressed his views on the case, emphasizing the danger Green continues to pose to society.
He stated, “Green has on more than one occasion committed sexual offences against vulnerable children and therefore poses a high risk to society.
He took actions to deter the child from telling anyone about the heinous crimes he had committed, and it is because of the incredibly brave victim that this offender has been brought to justice.” This case highlights the ongoing efforts of the justice system to ensure that offenders who commit such grave crimes are held accountable and receive appropriate sentences to protect the community, especially its most vulnerable members.
