JAKE CORBETT AND SHOCKING RAPE IN LONDON
A man identified as Jake Corbett has been sentenced to a severe prison term after committing a violent and heinous crime in London.Corbett, aged 26 and residing on Rotherfield Street in East Canonbury, was found guilty of multiple serious charges after breaking into a woman's home in Islington and inflicting a terrifying assault.
In November, Corbett pleaded guilty to four counts of rape alongside charges of theft involving a mobile phone.
Today, at a hearing held at Snaresbrook Crown Court, the severity of his actions was laid bare to the court and public.
The incident occurred on the evening of October 8 of the previous year, when Corbett forcibly entered the victim’s residence, unleashing a terrifying ordeal that left her feeling more frightened than she had ever experienced before.
Prosecutor Grace Yu-Ong described the horrific scene, revealing how the victim awoke suddenly to see Corbett kneeling by her bedside, peering over her as she lay in bed.
This shocking detail underscores the intrusive and invasive nature of the attack, which occurred in the presence of her young daughter, who was inside the home at the time.
During the assault, Corbett used a knife to threaten the woman, forcing her into submission and raping her multiple times.
After the assault, he stole her mobile phone and a set of keys to her property.
As he was leaving, he allegedly threatened her again, standing on the staircase and warning, “If you say anything I’ll come back.
I’ll hurt you.
I’ll kill you,” further amplifying the trauma inflicted.
Despite Corbett’s claims during a police interview that he was not at the scene, forensic evidence, including fingerprint analysis, confirmed his presence within the victim’s home.
This proof contributed significantly to the court’s decision to hold him accountable.
The victim delivered an emotional statement, describing how her life and her family's lives have been thoroughly disrupted by the attack.
She explained that discussing the incident still causes her physical distress, with her whole body trembling.
Her words reflected deep psychological scars, expressing fears about trusting others and difficulties in maintaining relationships.
She emphasized that, “I have never felt fear like it and I will never forget it,” highlighting the lasting impact of Corbett’s actions.
Addressing Corbett directly, Judge Martyn Zeidman QC acknowledged the cruelty of his conduct.
He pointed out that Corbett’s behavior was especially heinous because children were present in the home during the attack.
The judge remarked, “That’s quite something,” emphasizing the gravity of the situation.
The judge also noted that regardless of any favorable character witnesses—who described Corbett as once being caring and good-natured—the severity of his crimes warranted a lengthy prison sentence.
Despite their claims that Corbett was not a threat to society, the court was convinced otherwise.
The sentencing concluded with a conviction of 20 years imprisonment for Corbett, a punishment reflecting the enormity of his actions.
The court also imposed a lifelong restraining order alongside a 25-year sexual harm prevention order, which will remain in effect once he is released from incarceration.
Detective Constable Max Orange, who led the investigation, expressed relief at the outcome.
“Corbett is a dangerous offender who carried out an appalling attack on a defenseless woman,” he stated.
“I am pleased that our efforts have resulted in him being removed from the streets and that he will no longer pose a risk to other women.” An appreciation was also extended to the victim’s bravery in facing the trauma, with the officer hopeful that today’s sentence offers her some level of closure after her ordeal.
