November 2012 Pensioner jailed for ‘disgusting’ sexual assault of young girl A pensioner who sexually assaulted a girl in a Dundee car park has been sentenced to 16 months in prison. Hugh Flynn (66), Clement Park Place, was also placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years. He had previously admitted the indecent assault of a girl under the age of 13 in the car park at the rear of Superdrug, Lochee High Street, on February 23, kissing her on the mouth and placing his hand under her clothing. Sheriff Richard Davidson had been told that horrified members of the public rushed to the young girl’s aid when they realised what was going on. On the day of the assault, the court heard, the girl was walking with a friend in Lochee High Street and as they passed a footpath leading to a small car park behind the shops they heard a male voice call to her. The victim left her friend and walked alone into the car park where she met Flynn, who kissed her on the mouth and sexually assaulted her. A man parking his car was so shocked by what he saw that he confronted the pensioner and there was a heated exchange of words, with Flynn denying any wrongdoing. The motorist prevented the older man from leaving the area and called the police. By this time, the girl had walked away, but the commotion attracted the attention of a woman passer-by. After being told about the assault, the woman followed the girl home and told her mother what had happened. The police spoke to the girl and then arrested Flynn, who simply asked: ”Will I get bail?” In a later interview he told police he had kissed the girl but denied placing his hand inside her trousers. After hearing the circumstances of the crime, Sheriff Davidson told Flynn it was a ”disgusting offence” and said the girl must have been terrified. He added that he was grateful to the members of the public for their assistance. The sheriff backdated the sentence to August 4, when Flynn was remanded in custody.
