Glen Grady

Salford Sexual Abuser

December 2011 Jail for ‘Fagin’ sex beast A PERVERTED drug addict who repeatedly sexually abused and raped two Wigan schoolgirls has been jailed for 18 years. A judge told Glen Grady that he had lived “a totally selfish and feral life” and had even got one of his victims addicted to drugs and drink to disinhibit her. Liverpool Crown Court also heard that in “Faginesque” style, he taught her to shoplift to finance his alcohol and drug habit enabling him to further corrupt her. As well as raping the girl, while she was aged between 13 and 18 years old, Grady also raped another girl when she was aged between 14 and 15 years old. Jailing the 47-year-old, Judge Robert Warnock said: “I regard you as a dangerous individual, in that you present a significant risk of causing serious personal injury because of your sexual self-absorption and predilections.” He told Grady, who showed no emotion during the hearing, that he had treated the first girl as a sexual object and described the offences against her as “truly horrifying”. He pointed out he had not used contraception and she gave birth to his child. “I am quite satisfied that you have seriously damaged the lives of both victims,” added Judge Warnock. He pointed out that Grady has shown no signs of remorse and during his trial had claimed that the victims were either lying or fantasists. Grady, of Elmira Way, Salford, was convicted of six specimen offences of raping the first girl and three of other serious sexual offences against her. He admitted three other similar offences involving her. The jury also convicted him of one specimen rape charge against the other girl and three of indecently assaulting her. After the case the first victim said that she “was over the moon” with the sentence. Simon Killeen, prosecuting, told the court that the offences came to light after the two women matured and courageously came forward to tell of their ordeals and how he had stolen their childhood. It also emerged that Grady allegedly had had sex with another under-age girl but she would not go through court proceedings. Mark Rhind, defending, said that Grady had been living an almost feral life and did not give a great deal of thought to what was happening between his fixes of Class A drugs. “He is now a very different man from then and has been described as a wreck of a man. A life time of addiction to drugs and drink haas taken its toll. He is in a state of depression and is a pathetic and forlorn figure and has recently tried to take his own life.” As well as the jail term, Grady was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’Register for life. After the hearing, Det Con Amanda Goulding, from Leigh Public Protection Investigation Unit, said: “After several years of anguish the victims have today seen some justice done. “Both of the women have shown tremendous courage reporting these incidents to the police and helping us with our investigations. “I hope that they can now begin to put these awful experiences behind them and move forward with their lives. “We take all reports of sexual abuse and rape seriously no matter how long ago they happened and if anyone is in the same position as these women, I want them to have the confidence to come forward so we can have justice done for them too.” Anyone who has been a victim of rape or sexual assault can contact Greater Manchester Police on 101 or 999 in an emergency.
