Dr Wayne Davis

Salford Sexual Abuser

A GP who sexually assaulted women while examining them has been jailed.Dr Wayne Davis, 69, from Salford, conducted unnecessary, intimate examinations and procedures on two women between 1995 and 2006, Manchester Crown Court heard. He told one of his victims he "needed to teach her how to pleasure her husband" and wanted to check that another was "a virgin" as he sexually assaulted them during medical examinations, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.He was found guilty of assault by penetration and indecent assault and jailed for eight years. In 2006, one young woman was suffering with gynaecological issues when she sought the help of Dr Davis. Preying on her innocence, he told her he was performing a procedure but sexually assaulted her, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said.Having worried about what happened for years, she reported the offences in May 2020 and Davis was arrested. The following month a second woman read about the arrest of Davis and came forward to report a similar incident in 1995 when he performed an unnecessary gynaecological examination on her, the CPS said.During the police investigation, Davis denied committing the offences, claiming any procedures he carried out would have been necessary. He was found not guilty of a separate count of assault by penetration, sexual assault and causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent. Two counts, one of assault by penetration and attempting to cause a person to engage in sexual activity without consent, were not proceeded with.Det Sgt Charlotte Sullivan said: "Davis' actions are truly horrific and shocking, he was in a position of power and used this for his own sexual gratification. He took advantage of the women in a time when they needed reassurance." She added: "He knowingly did not follow the guidance of the GP's chaperone policy and sexually assaulted lone women in his place of work with no regard for their wellbeing whatsoever, they were seeking his advice as a medical professional for personal and private matters."Gill Petrovic, of the CPS, said he was in a position of trust as a doctor and a "highly respected man" within the community who "abused his position to commit sexual offences against women under his care."
