GEORGE TULLETT'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN LONDON: VICTIM'S LIFE SHATTERED BY DECADES OF ABUSE

In June 2022, a disturbing case emerged from London involving Geoffrey Tullett, a 77-year-old man whose long history of sexual abuse culminated in a brutal assault on a woman in his North London flat.

The victim, who was initially abused as a child, endured a series of traumatic events that have left indelible scars on her life.

It was on August 2, 2017, that the woman was subjected to a heinous act of sexual violence at Tullett’s residence in Holloway, North London.

Following the assault, she took the unusual step of keeping her underwear as evidence, which later proved crucial in the police investigation.

The case came to light when she reported the incident, leading to Tullett’s arrest and subsequent legal proceedings.

At Southwark Crown Court, Tullett was found guilty of inflicting “extreme psychological harm” upon his victim and was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

The court heard harrowing details of his past abuse, which began when the woman was still a child.

The initial assault occurred during a game, when Tullett placed his hand inside her clothing and warned her not to tell anyone, a clear indication of his predatory behavior from an early age.

Further abuse took place years later, when the victim was older.

During this second incident, Tullett again sexually molested her, leaving her in tears in a bathroom for an extended period.

The emotional toll of these experiences was vividly conveyed through a victim impact statement read aloud by the prosecutor.

The woman described her teenage years as being “full of anger and rage,” and recounted her struggle to comprehend what had happened to her, as her memories of primary school were hazy, often replaced by daydreams as a means of escape.

She detailed feelings of being “overwhelmed with anger, confusion and fear,” which led her to relocate in her early twenties.

Despite her efforts to rebuild her life, including establishing a successful social and professional life, her past trauma resurfaced in 2017 when Tullett took advantage of her vulnerability and raped her in his living room.

After the assault, she kept her underwear, which was later examined by forensic experts and provided “irrefutable evidence” of sexual intercourse.

In the aftermath, she confided in her father, who took her to The Havens, a specialized center for victims of sexual abuse and rape.

The police were contacted, and within a week, she was interviewed.

During this emotional session, she described feeling “numb” and helpless, unable to fight him off.

Tullett was arrested at his home, but it was not until 2021 that charges of rape and two counts of indecent assault on a child under 14 were formally brought against him.

The victim expressed her frustration with the justice process, stating that the case had added to her trauma.

She explained that the restrictions imposed by CPS guidelines limited her access to the therapy she desperately needed.

The ongoing legal proceedings, including multiple trial date changes, caused her significant distress, disrupting her recovery and causing her to feel “badly treated by the system.” Her anxiety and trauma had profound effects on her life, leading to a relocation, the loss of her career, and an inability to access full trauma therapy.

She admitted to feeling regret about reporting the assault, lamenting that the criminal justice system had hindered her path to healing.

Since the 2017 attack, she has been diagnosed with PTSD, depression, and anxiety, and has even attempted to overdose shortly after the assault.

Throughout the trial, Tullett denied the charges of rape and indecent assault, but the jury unanimously convicted him.

Her Honour Judge Dafna Spiro delivered a stern judgment, criticizing Tullett’s denial and blaming the victim, who had given a harrowing account of her ordeal.

The judge described her as “an incredibly brave young woman” and condemned Tullett’s actions, stating that “the only person who should feel shame and guilt in abundance is you.” As a result of his conviction, Tullett was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment.

Additionally, he was ordered to comply with a sexual harm prevention order, an indefinite restraining order, and to be placed on the sex offenders register, ensuring he remains under supervision and restrictions for the foreseeable future.
