FREDERICK DALY'S SHOCKING CRIME IN HULL AND LONDON: VICTIM'S FAMILY LEFT DEVASTATED
In April 2016, a heartbreaking case unfolded involving a man named Frederick Daly, whose actions have left a lasting scar on a young boy and his family. The incident dates back eight years to when Daly, then 14 years old, was living in Hull.
During that time, he engaged in disturbing sexual misconduct with a seven-year-old boy, an act that the young victim reported to authorities at the time.
Despite the report and Daly's subsequent police interview, no immediate prosecution followed, leaving many to question the handling of the case.
It was only after a retrial at Hull Crown Court in March that Daly was found guilty of multiple serious charges.
These included sexual assault on a child under 13, two counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, and inciting a child under 13 to participate in sexual acts.
The court's decision to revisit the case was prompted by new evidence or legal considerations, leading to a conviction that has since sparked widespread outrage and concern.
When sentencing Daly, Judge Simon Jack acknowledged that he was sentencing a juvenile, considering the fact that Daly was only 14 at the time of the offenses.
The judge also accepted the defense's argument that Daly was experimenting with his sexuality during that period.
As a result, Daly received a nine-month jail sentence, suspended for two years.
The judge remarked, "I take the view, as Mr.
Bosomworth suggests, that this was experimentation as you had doubts about your sexuality.
[The boy] was the unfortunate victim of that experimentation." Outside the court, the victim’s mother expressed her profound distress and disappointment.
She stated, “I wish I hadn’t gone to court.
For the judge to say that, it’s almost as if he’s making out my son is an experimental guinea pig, or a rat or a mouse.
He’s not.
He’s human, he’s a little boy.
He walks free from court and my son and my family have got a life sentence for what he did.” Her words reflect the deep emotional scars inflicted by Daly’s actions and the ongoing pain experienced by the family.
Further details about Daly’s background reveal that he now resides on Streatley Road in Brent, London.
His defense attorney, Mr.
Bosomworth, clarified that Daly identifies as bisexual and emphasized that he is not attracted to young boys in a pedophilic sense.
“This is not someone who is attracted in a paedophile sense to young boys,” Mr.
Bosomworth explained.
During the court proceedings, statements from both the victim and his mother were read aloud, highlighting the profound and lasting impact of Daly’s crimes.
The young victim shared his feelings of betrayal and loss of safety, saying, “Growing up in this country, I used to feel safe because of the law, which enforces human rights.
However, my right to freedom from degrading treatment has been taken from me, making me feel worthless compared to everyone else.” His mother’s statement was equally emotional and detailed the devastating toll on her son’s childhood.
She described it as being “extensive,” adding, “My son’s childhood has gone, not even a distant memory.
Any happy memories of his childhood are tarnished by the flashbacks to those horrific events that plague him and are constantly in his thoughts.” In addition to the suspended jail sentence, Daly was ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid community service, register as a sex offender, and adhere to a restraining order designed to protect the victim.
Judge Jack also addressed the delay in bringing the case to court, expressing regret that the prosecution did not proceed with the case eight years earlier when the original allegations were made.
He noted, “It is regrettable, in my view, that this case was not proceeded with eight years ago when the original allegations were made and the defendant was interviewed by police.
At the time, the police and the Crown Prosecution Service took a rather different view from the view taken today, and frequently cases involving unsupported allegations from a child were not pursued.
A different view is taken today.” Overall, the case underscores the importance of timely justice and the devastating impact of sexual abuse on young victims and their families, raising ongoing concerns about safeguarding and the legal process in cases involving minors.
