COLIN BUCKLEY SENTENCED IN SWANSEA FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES AGAINST YOUNG GIRL
In July 2017, Colin Buckley, who is now residing in the Pontliw/Pontuddulais area, faced serious allegations of sexual misconduct involving a young girl.The disturbing incidents came to light when the victim, a six-year-old girl, confided in her aunt about the abuse she had endured.
The court heard that Buckley, a former nurse, had engaged in multiple acts of sexual assault and indecency against the child, leading to his conviction and subsequent sentencing.
Back in December 2013, Buckley’s offending was initially reported, revealing a pattern of predatory behavior.
The young girl, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, recounted that Buckley had told her, “I know I’m being naughty but I can’t help it,” during the assault.
This statement, along with her description of feeling “disgusting” afterward, underscored the traumatic impact of his actions.
Colin Buckley, aged 40 at the time of sentencing, resided on Manselton Road in Manselton.
He pleaded guilty to a series of serious charges, including three counts of indecent assault on a female under 13, three counts of gross indecency with a girl under 13, five counts of sexual assault of a girl under 13, and five counts of causing a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity.
Additionally, he admitted to one count of attempted sexual assault.
Although he denied two charges of exposure, the prosecution announced they would not pursue a trial on those allegations.
The court proceedings took place at Swansea Crown Court, where Judge Huw Davies described Buckley as “sexually predatory” and stated that his actions had “blighted” the victim’s life.
The judge emphasized that Buckley appeared to have shown a complete disregard for the harm he caused, seeking only sexual gratification regardless of the damage inflicted.
During police interviews, Buckley claimed he did not understand why he had committed these offenses.
His defense lawyer, Stephen Rees, explained that Buckley was unable to provide an explanation for his behavior.
Rees also highlighted that by pleading guilty, Buckley had spared his victim the ordeal of testifying in court and had acknowledged his guilt.
The lawyer further noted that Buckley’s decision to admit guilt indicated that he had ceased his offending behavior voluntarily.
Despite his guilty plea, Buckley was described as a “continued risk to the public,” and the court took into account the severity of his crimes when sentencing him to six years in prison.
The case underscores the devastating impact of sexual abuse on young victims and the importance of holding offenders accountable for their actions.
