Carl McRae

Orford Sexual Abuser

July 2018 Sex offender who attempted to rape 16-year-old jailed for contacting ANOTHER teen THE devastated mum of a 14-year-old schoolgirl felt sick when she discovered her daughter had been in contact with a paedophile who had previously attempted to rape a 16-year-old. Carl McRae, of Festival Avenue, Orford, was jailed for 22 months at Liverpool Crown Court on June 26 after breaching the terms of his sexual harm prevention order. The 44-year-old, who also uses the surname Rae, was banned from using the internet to speak to children under the age of 18 by judge following a previous conviction under the Sexual Offences Act. But the court heard how McRae, who has previously served 10 years for his crimes, ignored the court order when he spoke to the victim’s daughter online. She said: “We first became aware when the police contacted us at the beginning of the year. “They had seized his electronic devices after a routine check which revealed he’d wiped them – apparently this is against the terms of his sexual harm prevention order. “They searched the hard drive and found various things – they obtained my details from Twitter and phoned me. “I felt totally sick to think that this man, who has communicated with me on Twitter for several years, would do this to my child. “She is fortunately very mature for her age and had dismissed several of his messages – like the ones asking for her phone number or ones asking for photos of her doing gymnastics. “She would change the subject of the conversation. “She felt sorry for him, because he’d told both of us lies about his past and we had no reason at the time to not believe anything he had said.” As well as breaching the sexual harm prevention order, McRae was also arrested on suspicion of three counts of making indecent photographs of a child. The mum hopes this shocking discovery will act as a stark warning to others to avoid further heartache.
She added: “I would say that you have no idea who anyone is online.  “We had no idea this man was a registered sex offender until we were contacted by the police. “You can follow someone for years and think you know things about them but they can tell you anything they like. “I would urge all parents to check their children’s social media, particularly if they are talking to people they’ve never met.  “I’d also say to keep everything public. No messages. And make sure that your child knows they can come to you if something doesn’t seem right. “The police who dealt with the case have been absolutely fantastic and we can’t praise them highly enough. This must have one of the most horrific jobs on Earth.”
