SCOTTISH DOMESTIC ABUSER BRIAN EDWARDS JAILED FOR CAMPAIGN OF HARASSMENT FROM BEHIND BARS
A notorious domestic abuser, Brian Edwards, was sentenced to three years in prison after he continued his campaign of harassment from behind bars.
Edwards, who was remanded in custody following a court hearing, had previously subjected his ex-partner to severe abuse, including choking her until she lost consciousness.
Despite being incarcerated, Edwards managed to write threatening letters to his victim, lashing out at her for 'having me in here on my birthday,' and threatening to harm anyone she might date.
His communications from prison, confirmed by jail authorities, highlighted the complex legal debate around prisoners' mail restrictions, with Edwards' case being described as 'perverse' by politicians.
Edwards pleaded guilty to stalking his victim between July and November of the previous year and to assaulting her, resulting in his three-year imprisonment.
The Scottish Prison Service stated they do not routinely censor mail citing the right to privacy, but critics argue this stance allows dangerous offenders like Edwards to continue their criminal behavior while incarcerated.
