DUNDEE SURVIVOR BLASTS ANKLE TAG SENTENCE IMPOSED 30 YEARS AFTER ORDEAL
In 1996, William Sinclair was convicted by a jury of engaging in lewd, indecent, and libidinous conduct toward the same girl on multiple occasions. Now residing in Dundee, Sinclair assaulted the girl several times at his former flat located in Dundee’s Nethergate area.
The jury, which reached a non-unanimous decision, agreed that Sinclair repeatedly touched her body and genitals throughout 1996.
Sheriff Jillian Martin-Brown sentenced him to a curfew from 10 pm to 7 am for one year and mandated that he register as a sex offender for five years.
The victim believes the main inconvenience of the punishment will be the ankle tag rubbing against her ankle and expressed disappointment with the sentence, feeling Sinclair should have been imprisoned.
She described her traumatic memories beginning from her ninth birthday and her confrontation with Sinclair as an adult.
Due to legal restrictions, the victim's identity cannot be disclosed.
