RELENTLESS DUNDEE ABUSER TOLD PARTNER: ‘YOU WON’T FIND ANYONE ELSE AS GOOD AS ME’
A persistent abuser has been found guilty of a violent campaign of domestic violence against his partner that lasted more than three years.Connor Ross assaulted his victim at various locations, including their home in Dundee, during a holiday in Benidorm, and once while she was behind the wheel, causing her to crash into a roadside barrier.
He even told her in a threatening manner: “You won’t find anyone else as good as me.” During the trial at Perth Sheriff Court, it was revealed how he continuously demeaned and degraded her through frequent name-calling and insulting remarks from the beginning of their relationship.
Ross, aged 30, denied committing the attacks and attempted to convince the jury that their relationship was mutual and that he had also been subjected to abuse by his former girlfriend.
After five days of testimony and more than three hours of jury deliberation, Ross was convicted of engaging in a pattern of abusive behavior towards his partner from 2020 to 2023.
He was remanded in custody and informed to expect a prison sentence when he is sentenced next month.
The court recognized the incidents as a serious and ongoing case of domestic abuse over an extended period.
Prosecutor Laurelle Johnstone highlighted the trustworthiness of the victim, emphasizing she likely could not have fabricated the detailed account.
The prosecution described how Ross consistently shouted at her nearly every day, called her insulting names early in their relationship, and how her allegations spanned two to three years, thereby normalizing the abusive behavior.
The indictment listed 21 instances of abuse and assault, including punching her head during a holiday, pouring liquids over her, pulling out her hair extensions, and repeatedly hitting her while she was driving, which resulted in a car crash.
Other assaults involved pushing her to the ground while she was pregnant, attempting to seize her phone, setting toys on fire, and sitting on her in a manner that restricted her breathing.
He also tried to silence her from talking about his actions and set fire to toys in a garden.
It was also disclosed that Ross has a previous conviction for domestic assault against a former partner.
The sheriff indicated that, considering the severity and length of the abuse, a custodial sentence was the most probable outcome.
Ross remains in custody ahead of his sentencing scheduled for July.
