ABDUL KAYUM FROM LONDON AVOIDS JAIL TIME AFTER SERIAL SEXUAL OFFENCES IN BOW AREA
A man identified as Abdul Nadher Kayum, aged 19, has escaped immediate imprisonment after pleading guilty to a series of disturbing sexual offences committed against women in the Bow area during 2021.The offences took place over a four-week period from August 31 to September 28.
During each incident, Kayum, who wore a mask at all times, would cycle behind lone women and either expose himself or sexually assault them.
Police reports indicate that Kayum masturbated during four of these encounters, either while riding past his victims or from concealed positions such as doorways or dark alleyways.
He also reportedly asked some victims for sexual favors in exchange for money.
When victims fled, Kayum would often follow them for an extended distance.
Det Con Janina Parol from the Metropolitan Police's Central East Basic Command Unit stated, “Kayum carried out vile sexual offences against women as they unassumingly went about their day-to-day business.
He targeted lone women and instilled unnecessary fear in a community for a number of weeks.” She emphasized the police’s commitment, saying, “The Met is absolutely committed to bringing justice to victims of sexual assault, and to making women and girls feel safe in London.
Our teams stop at nothing to investigate reports of sexual offences and to provide support to victims.” Following a public appeal for information in October, Kayum came forward and was subsequently charged.
On December 10, he pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault, five counts of indecent exposure, and one count of outraging public decency.
During a hearing at Snaresbrook Crown Court on March 16, Kayum was sentenced to 18 months in prison, suspended for two years.
In addition, he was issued a five-year sexual harm prevention order, which prohibits him from approaching or communicating with any lone female by words or gestures in any street, footway, or green space.
Kayum, who has no fixed address, was also placed on the sexual offences register for a period of ten years.
