WILLIAM RAMSAY AND JUNE RATTRAY SHOCK DUNDEE WITH CHILD ABUSE CASES IN 1970S AND 80S
In a disturbing case that has shocked the city of Dundee, two pensioners, William Ramsay and June Rattray, face sentencing next month after being convicted of a series of violent and abusive acts committed against young children during the late 1970s and early 1980s.Following a comprehensive seven-day trial at Dundee’s High Court, William Ramsay, aged 71, was found guilty of five separate assault charges.
The court heard evidence of a brutal “catalogue” of attacks carried out over several years, which included threats, punches, and strikes that inflicted injuries on his young victims.
Ramsay’s co-accused, June Rattray, aged 67, who was also his former partner, had previously admitted to a specific assault involving a belt, which caused injury to one of the children.
The court proceedings revealed that Ramsay’s assaults on one of the victims, who has since passed away, were particularly severe.
This victim was subjected to repeated attacks from the age of just five, with incidents occurring across various properties in Dundee between 1978 and 1985.
During these assaults, Ramsay made threats and physically attacked the boy, punching and striking him on the head and body, resulting in injuries.
One of the most serious charges involved an assault that endangered the young boy’s life, which Ramsay was convicted of by the majority of the jury.
Another victim, who survived these assaults, was attacked and threatened over a span of 13 years, beginning when he was only four years old.
The abuse included punches, kicks, and threats, with Ramsay repeatedly striking him on the head and body during visits to different Dundee properties.
Notably, in December 1983, when the boy was 10, Ramsay inflicted repeated blows to his head and body with his hands.
June Rattray’s involvement was also significant.
She admitted to repeatedly striking the same child in 1985 with a belt at another Dundee property, causing injury.
Her absence from much of the court proceedings was noted, as she was in hospital during the trial.
The court heard that her actions contributed to the pattern of abuse inflicted on the young victims.
Both Ramsay and Rattray are scheduled to return to Dundee’s High Court on August 29 for sentencing.
The case has left a lasting impact on the community, highlighting the dark history of abuse that took place within the city decades ago, and the pursuit of justice for the victims involved.
