DUNDEE MAN ORDERED TO STAY AWAY FROM EX-PARTNER AFTER RELENTLESS HARASSMENT CAMPAIGN
A Scottish man has been ordered to stay away from his former partner for ten years after a prolonged campaign of harassment and bullying.William Gibbs, aged 40, from Dundee, engaged in aggressive and controlling behavior towards his ex-partner, including repeatedly driving past her home while blasting traditional marching music at all hours.
During a year-long episode of abuse, Gibbs followed her while she was walking with a child, left unwanted gifts outside her residence, and dumped items without consent.
He also followed her to a child's nursery, shouted and swore at her, and sent her WhatsApp messages from multiple phones demanding she talk to him and offering gifts and money to reconcile.
Gibbs accused her of having a relationship with another man after seeing her entering someone else's car and was reported to have driven past her house loudly revving his engine, staring at her and her friends, and playing protestant march music with his flute, which police noted was disturbing to the neighborhood.
He admitted to breaching various restraining orders and to engaging in coercive conduct.
The sheriff, Paul Brown, described the case as serious, indicating that Gibbs could face a custodial sentence but decided on a community order with 225 hours of unpaid work, social work supervision for three years, and a non-harassment order for ten years.
Gibbs also admitted to following his ex-partner at various locations and sending her persistent messages, demanding her to communicate and accept gifts from him, despite her clear objections.
The case highlights his lengthy pattern of abusive behavior, culminating in a court-imposed restriction to prevent further contact.
