TOM BROWN FROM CHESTERFIELD JAILED FOR SEX OFFENCES AGAINST CHILDREN ON SOCIAL MEDIA
A man with a troubling history of sexual offences, Tom Brown from Chesterfield, has been sentenced to prison after engaging in predatory behavior online involving minors.Brown, aged 34, used social media platforms to deceive and exploit children, despite being under a court-imposed Sexual Harm Prevention Order that prohibited him from using any messaging services to contact individuals under the age of 16.
Brown created two separate Snapchat accounts, one of which he used to impersonate his 'older brother.' His primary aim was to communicate with what he believed were young girls aged 12 and 13.
Unbeknownst to him, these accounts were actually operated by undercover police officers conducting an investigation into his activities.
In June 2023, Brown initiated contact with a Snapchat account he thought belonged to a 13-year-old girl.
He claimed to be a 14-year-old boy from Sheffield, and he asked her if she would be willing to meet him and his 'older brother' for sexual activity.
This conversation was part of a series of messages that revealed his intent to exploit the girl sexually.
On the same day, Brown also began messaging another account, which he believed belonged to a 12-year-old girl.
Initially, he claimed to be a 14-year-old from Sheffield, but later altered his story, asserting he was a 12-year-old from Derby.
Over several days, Brown persistently engaged with this account, urging the girl to send explicit images of herself.
He also sent her videos and pictures of himself performing sexual acts, further demonstrating his intent to exploit her.
Investigations revealed that the Snapchat account was accessed via an IP address linked to Brown’s residence on Lower Grove Road in Chesterfield.
This connection provided crucial evidence tying him directly to the online communications.
Brown was arrested on June 19, 2023, and faced multiple charges, including attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, causing a child aged 13 to 15 to view sexual images, arranging or facilitating child sex offences involving sexual activity without penetration, and attempting to incite a female child under 13 to engage in sexual activity.
He was also charged with breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order five times.
During court proceedings, Brown admitted to all charges.
On January 8, at Derby Crown Court, he was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison.
Additionally, he received an extended license period of three years, during which he will be subject to strict supervision.
As part of his sentence, Brown is required to sign the sex offender register and was issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order to prevent further offences.
