September 2018 Sex attacker raped girl, 16, while holding knife then stalked her A ‘dangerous’ sex attacker raped a teenage girl while clutching a knife then later stalked her as she walked to school. Curtis Myers, 21, was jailed for six years for the May 15 attack, which his victim said left her feeling unsafe in her own home. Myers pinned his victim down on a bed as she ‘screamed and cried’ and then forced himself on her, Derby Crown Court was told. He then snatched her phone from her so she could not tell anyone about what had happened and the day after the attack, followed her to school and bombarded her with text messages. Myers was arrested after his victim later confided to family about her ordeal. Sarah Allen, prosecuting, read out a victim personal statement written by the teenager. In it she said: ‘The whole incident has a traumatic effect on my life on a daily basis. I don’t feel safe in my own home and I ask my mum if I can sleep in her bed. ‘Before I was walking to school and focusing on my studies. Now I am easily distracted and I feel I am being followed wherever I go.’ Jailing Myers, Judge Shaun Smith QC said he had read a psychiatric assessment and presentence report that had been prepared in advance of the hearing. He told Myers: ‘The doctor is in no doubt you present a significant risk of causing serious harm against females and the probation service say your risk of harm is sexual, physical and emotional. ‘I am in no doubt you are dangerous. ‘There is no suggestion you used the knife in order to have sex with her [the victim] or pointed it at her. But it is very concerning that you chose to keep hold of the knife when you raped her. ‘It has led me to believe you felt you were more empowered by holding the knife.’ Myers, of Newbold, Chesterfield, admitted fully what he had done in his police interview and later pleaded guilty to rape and stalking.
