CURTIS MYERS FROM CHESTERFIELD SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND STALKING OF TEENAGE GIRL
In May 2018, a disturbing incident unfolded in Chesterfield involving Curtis Myers, a 21-year-old man whose actions have left a lasting impact on his young victim. The teenage girl, only 16 years old at the time, was subjected to a terrifying assault that has since been described as both violent and predatory.
According to court reports, Myers forcibly restrained the girl on her bed, causing her to scream and cry as he committed the assault.
The court was told that Myers was armed with a knife during the attack, which he used to threaten her and maintain control throughout the ordeal.
The victim's statement revealed the profound trauma she experienced, stating that the incident has made her feel unsafe even within her own home.
She expressed her ongoing fears, noting that she now frequently asks her mother if she can sleep in her bed, and that her focus on school and daily activities has been severely affected.
She described feeling as though she is being followed wherever she goes, a clear indication of the lasting psychological scars inflicted by Myers' actions.
Following the assault, Myers took her phone, preventing her from contacting anyone to seek help or report the crime.
The day after the attack, he stalked her as she walked to school, bombarding her with numerous text messages, further intensifying her sense of vulnerability and fear.
It was only after the victim confided in her family about her ordeal that authorities were alerted.
Her family’s intervention led to Myers' arrest, bringing an end to his reign of intimidation and violence.
During the court proceedings, Sarah Allen, the prosecutor, read aloud a personal statement from the teenage girl, emphasizing the profound and ongoing impact of the attack on her mental health and sense of safety.
The girl described her daily struggles, including her difficulty concentrating and her persistent feeling of being followed, which have disrupted her normal life.
Judge Shaun Smith QC, presiding over the case, reviewed a psychiatric assessment and a pre-sentence report that highlighted Myers' dangerous nature.
Addressing Myers directly, the judge stated, “The doctor is in no doubt you present a significant risk of causing serious harm against females, and the probation service confirms that your risk encompasses sexual, physical, and emotional harm.
I am in no doubt you are dangerous.” While the judge clarified that Myers did not use the knife to threaten or harm the victim during the sexual assault, he expressed concern over Myers' decision to retain the weapon during the attack.
“It has led me to believe you felt more empowered by holding the knife,” the judge remarked, underscoring the threatening nature of the assault.
Myers, who resides in Newbold, Chesterfield, admitted to the charges during police interviews and subsequently pleaded guilty to both rape and stalking.
His sentencing reflects the severity of his actions and the lasting trauma inflicted upon his young victim.
