CHESTERFIELD PERVERT GRENVILLE GASCOYNE SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF TEEN VICTIM

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Chesterfield, Derbyshire, Grenville Gascoyne, aged 64, has been sentenced to 52 months in prison after admitting to a series of serious sexual offenses committed over several years. The crimes, which spanned from the early 1980s to the 1970s, involved the sexual assault and exploitation of two young girls, with the primary victim being a girl who was in her early teens at the time of the abuse.

According to court proceedings, Gascoyne's initial offense occurred when he was alone with the girl in a garage. During this encounter, he took a chance by placing his hand up her skirt while she was standing on a step ladder. The judge described this act as a classic example of grooming, indicating that it was a calculated attempt to gain the girl’s trust and lower her defenses. From this point, Gascoyne's offending escalated, with a series of increasingly serious sexual acts committed against the same girl between 1981 and 1985.

Among these acts, Gascoyne drove the girl to a lay-by where he indecently touched her, and on another occasion, he forced her to touch him sexually when they were alone. These incidents caused lasting trauma, and the court heard that the victim’s life had been significantly affected by Gascoyne’s actions. The prosecution highlighted that Gascoyne’s behavior was driven by his own sexual gratification, with the judge emphasizing that he took her innocence for his own benefit.

Gascoyne also admitted to a sixth offense involving a different girl, in which he grabbed her breasts during the 1970s. His guilty pleas to five counts of indecent assault related to the primary victim, along with the additional charge, paint a disturbing picture of his pattern of predatory behavior.

Prosecutor Graham Hustin told Derby Crown Court that the first victim had reported the incidents to police in 2011. However, at that time, the Crown Prosecution Service believed there was no realistic chance of securing a conviction. It was only after the victim escalated her complaint to the Independent Police Complaints Commission that an investigation was reopened in 2014, leading to Gascoyne’s eventual charges.

Hustin described the lengthy and arduous process of bringing Gascoyne to justice, noting that the initial incident involved him asking the girl to climb a step ladder before inappropriately touching her. The second incident involved Gascoyne coming up behind her and groping her breasts, an act that lasted several minutes. When re-interviewed in April 2016, Gascoyne claimed that both victims’ accounts were “fantasy,” but he later admitted to six counts of indecent assault.

Gascoyne, who resides on Old Hall Road in Chesterfield, was ultimately convicted and sentenced by Judge Jason MacAdam, who emphasized the long-term impact of his crimes on the victims. The judge’s comments underscored the gravity of the offenses and the betrayal of trust involved in grooming and abusing young girls in the community.
