Update: Grenville Gascoyne was jailed for 52 months April 2017 Derbyshire pervert ‘took victim’s innocence’ when he sexually assaulted her A pervert from Derbyshire “took his victim’s innocence” by sexually assaulting her over a “two to three year period” when she was in her early teens. Grenville Gascoyne’s first offence saw him “chance his arm” on the girl when he was alone with her in a garage. He put his hand up her skirt when she was stood on a step ladder. A judge called that incident “classic grooming”. From then on, Gascoyne carried out “a series of more serious sexual offending” against the girl between 1981 and 1985. A second incident saw him drive her to a lay-by and touch her indecently and a third saw him force her to touch him sexually when they were alone together. Gascoyne, now 64, pleaded guilty to five counts of indecent assault against that victim and also admitted a sixth offence against a different girl whose breasts he grabbed in the 1970s Jailing him for 52 months, Judge Jason MacAdam said: “I see that first offence as you chancing your arm at the beginning of what I would categorise as a series of offending. You were grooming her and seeing what you could get away with before going on to carry out a series of more sexual offending. “I have read that the consequences have had a long term effect on her. “You took her innocence and that was for your own sexual gratification.” Graham Hustin, prosecuting at Derby Crown Court, said the main victim first made a statement to the police in 2011 but the Crown Prosecution Service deemed there to be “no realistic prospect of securing a conviction” against Gascoyne. He said the victim took the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Commission and as a result an investigation was re-opened in 2014 and Gascoyne was charged with a number of sexual offences. Mr Hustin said: “It has been a long and difficult fight to bring this defendant to justice. The first incident took place when they were alone together in a garage and for no reason he asked her to climb a step ladder before placing his hand up her skirt. “A second incident saw him come up behind her and grab her breasts. He groped her and it lasted several minutes.” Gascoyne, of Old Hall Road, Chesterfield, was re-interviewed in April 2016 where he told Derbyshire police both his victims accounts of what happened to the were “fantasy”. But he later admitted to six counts of indecent assault against them.
