DUNFERMLINE CARE WORKER STEVEN WATSON SENTENCED FOR RAPE OF DISABLED MAN
A support worker from Dunfermline has been sentenced to six years and four months in prison after being found guilty of repeatedly assaulting and raping a profoundly disabled man at a residential care facility in Fife. Steven Watson, aged 64, was employed at the time as a support worker at the home, where he committed these heinous acts against a 44-year-old resident who is unable to live independently and requires round-the-clock care.The incidents took place over a period spanning from December 1, 2018, to January 6, 2019. During this time, Watson assaulted and raped the vulnerable man on three separate occasions. The victim, who suffers from multiple health conditions including cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and severe learning difficulties, relies heavily on caregivers and uses a wheelchair. His inability to physically resist or give consent made the crimes particularly egregious, as highlighted by the presiding judge.
At the High Court in Edinburgh, Lord Beckett described the crimes as
