DUNDEE OFFENDER JAILED FOR DOMESTIC VANDALISM AND ARSON
An abusive husband named Steven McCafferty caused fear and alarm to his wife by repeatedly vandalizing her vehicle and property. On April 5, he punctured all four tires of his wife’s car at Dunbar Park, Speckled Wood Court, deflating them with screwdriver-like punctures.
Subsequently, he used white gloss paint to write the word 'slag' on the car, which was discovered after the tires were deflated.
During this incident, McCafferty also sent threatening messages to his wife, including a text stating, “Threw everything away for ya but I’ll pay ya back,” which was believed to indicate ongoing threats or further acts of intimidation.
Police found traces of his DNA on the vehicle, and he was identified through his fingerprints and DNA matching.
In a separate act of domestic violence, McCafferty set fire to the front door of a property on Eskdale Avenue, damaging the letterbox and causing a smell of turpentine.
Used and unused matches were recovered from the scene, linking him to the arson.
McCafferty, who was detained at HMP Perth, pleaded guilty to the charges involving damage and harassment, including puncturing his wife’s tyres, painting her car with an offensive slur, and setting the door of a property on fire.
The case was heard at Dundee Sheriff Court, where Sheriff Tom Hughes deferred the sentencing until January.
McCafferty remained in custody during this period, awaiting further penalties for his actions.
