DUNDEE MAN STEVEN CARR SENTENCED TO 55 MONTHS FOR DECADES OF DOMESTIC ABUSE IN DUNDEE
A man from Dundee with a long history of domestic violence has been sentenced to a total of 55 months in prison after a series of disturbing and violent incidents spanning over two decades.Steven Carr, aged 38, was found guilty of multiple charges following a trial held at Dundee Sheriff Court in January.
The court heard that Carr was responsible for 14 separate offences committed against three different women over a period of 20 years, highlighting a pattern of controlling and abusive behavior that persisted for decades.
On Tuesday, the court imposed a sentence of 55 months imprisonment on Carr, along with a 10-year non-harassment order, aiming to protect the victims from further contact or intimidation.
The decision was met with approval from Police Scotland’s Domestic Abuse Task Force, which had initiated its investigation into Carr’s conduct in April 2017.
Detective Inspector Muriel Fuller, a representative of the task force, emphasized the significance of the conviction, stating, “Following his sentence today, Steven Carr must now face the consequences of his horrendous behaviour.
The victims who he offended against should be commended for their courage in coming forward.
Their bravery throughout this process has directly led to the conviction of this cruel and controlling individual.” Inspector Fuller further underscored the importance of the case, asserting that Carr’s conviction and sentencing send a strong message that domestic abuse will be thoroughly and robustly investigated by police authorities.
She reaffirmed that no one should have to endure abuse within their own home or at the hands of a partner, emphasizing the commitment of law enforcement to protect victims and hold offenders accountable.
Details of Carr’s crimes reveal a disturbing pattern of violence and intimidation.
Between January 1998 and June 2006, he assaulted and abducted one woman at properties on Malcolm Street and Balgay Court.
During this period, he threatened to kill her and her dog, struck her with a remote control, threw objects at her, and subjected her to repeated slaps, shakes, pushes, drags, and kicks.
He also locked her inside a house, further demonstrating his controlling and violent tendencies.
In addition, Carr was convicted of four charges related to another woman, including three counts of assault and one of sending threatening messages, between July 2006 and July 2008 at Kingennie Court.
His violent actions included grabbing her leg and pulling her downstairs, pushing her against a wall, throwing her against a cupboard, kicking her, and threatening to kill her dog.
The most recent allegations involve a third woman, with incidents occurring at Granton Terrace and Benvie Road from April 2017 to September of the previous year.
Carr was found guilty of pulling her from a bed, attempting to strangle her, threatening her life, kicking her in the face, and throwing a lamp at her head.
He also threw a dog lead at her, injuring her, and caused injury to her leg with hair straighteners.
His violence extended to threats of killing her, seizing her hair, pulling her up, pushing her to the floor, and repeatedly kicking and punching her body and face.
Following their separation, Carr continued to threaten her with stabbing and killing, repeatedly visiting her home, smashing her phone, damaging her property, stealing a watch, and threatening to take his own life.
Before the trial, Carr admitted to three charges of breaching curfew and contacting the third victim despite bail restrictions, further illustrating his ongoing disregard for legal boundaries and the safety of his victims.
