DUNDEE KICKBOXER STEPHEN TRAYNOR SENTENCED AFTER BRUTAL ATTACK ON PARTNER IN DUNDEE
A professional kickboxer from Dundee, Stephen Traynor, was sentenced to 18 months in prison following a series of violent and abusive acts against his partner, Sandra Nicoll. The incident occurred shortly after Traynor achieved a significant milestone in his career, becoming the world champion at the 2022 World Kickboxing Championships held in Barnsley.Traynor's violent behavior was brought to light during his appearance at Dundee Sheriff Court, where he pleaded guilty to engaging in abusive conduct towards Ms Nicoll spanning from August 19 to December 22, 2022. The court heard disturbing details of his actions, which included repeatedly spitting on his partner and throwing objects around their hotel room. In a particularly troubling episode, Traynor attempted to force Ms Nicoll to sleep in the bath, claiming she had embarrassed him during their stay.
The court also revealed that Traynor's violence extended beyond the hotel incident. During a wedding in Dyce, the couple's relationship was again marred by Traynor’s rage. Witnesses reported that he became furious when Ms Nicoll spoke to another man at the wedding reception held at her hotel. His anger culminated in him repeatedly punching her in the face, an act that underscored the pattern of physical abuse that Ms Nicoll later described as both physically and mentally damaging.
Further details emerged about the controlling nature of Traynor’s relationship with Ms Nicoll. The court was informed that he monitored her social media accounts and subjected her to constant threats, including threatening to kill himself if she ever decided to leave him. Despite her efforts to end the relationship multiple times, Traynor’s abusive behavior persisted.
In addition to the prison sentence, Sheriff Alistair Carmichael issued a non-harassment order, prohibiting Traynor from having any contact with Ms Nicoll for a period of five years. The sheriff emphasized the severity of the offenses, stating, “Because of the gravity of the offence there’s no alternative to custody,” highlighting the serious nature of the abuse and violence inflicted by Traynor in Dundee.
